Samuel
My name is Samuel Mayer, heir to the Mayer family. Today, my grandfather dropped the bombshell that he wants me to get married. For crying out loud, that's not in my plans, especially after what happened with Yaniz.
Samuel's Memory.
Yaniz was the love of my life. I met her in my last year of university; she was studying finance and working in the school cafeteria. I pursued her for a long time, but she never paid me any attention. After months of trying to at least establish a friendship, she finally noticed me. I couldn't believe it; the beautiful Yaniz had finally noticed me, and I was over the moon.
Our first date was absolutely amazing. We went to the movies, had dinner, and I took her back to her apartment. Everything went so well that we went out again, and it was just as wonderful. In just one week, she agreed to be my girlfriend, and I was extremely happy.
As time went on, I helped her with her studies because she had lost her job. I paid her university tuition and helped with the rent for the small apartment she used.
We spent ten wonderful months together. I was taking my classes in business administration and international business while she took hers. When we went out on weekends, I liked to spoil her, so I took her shopping and to her favorite Italian restaurant. I loved seeing her smile.
One day, she started acting weird; she seemed nervous and distracted. This behavior continued for several days. I asked her about it, and she said she was fine, just stressed from her internships, and I understood because I was feeling the same way.
No matter how hard I tried to make time for her, Yaniz was always busy. I hadn't seen her for a week.
Saturday rolled around, and I went to see her. When I knocked on her door at eight in the morning, no one answered, which really puzzled me. Where could she have gone so early? I waited 15 minutes, and nothing. I was about to leave when the building manager arrived.
When I asked about her, the administrator just opened her eyes in astonishment and told me Yaniz wasn't there, that she had sent a text message saying she would leave the apartment because she had to leave the country urgently.
I didn't know what to say; my eyes widened in surprise, and the only thing I could think of was to ask her to let me in. I went in, and there was nothing strange; everything was just as I remembered it the last time I was there.
I started looking around, and her clothes were gone, not a note or anything to tell me where she had gone. I took out my phone and dialed, but no one answered; only a message saying 'the number dialed does not exist, please verify' played.
I felt lost and didn't know what to do, so I left and called Luca, my best friend. I went to see him at a local bar, confided in him, and drank until I lost myself and forgot the pain I felt in my chest.
When I was sitting there looking at Yaniz's photo, a man passing behind me noticed the photo and stopped dead in his tracks. He asked me why I had a picture of his girlfriend on my phone, and I was stunned. I stood up, furious. Without waiting for an explanation, we started fighting until we nearly killed each other. Luca took me from the place, and we ended up in the hospital. After that day, I asked my friend never to mention her again; it was a closed chapter.
Although days later, I searched for her and tried to find her to ask for an explanation, there was no trace of her, not even the private detective could locate her. After two months, I gave up trying to find her and decided to move on.
End of Samuel's memory.
Well, I think it's time to move on with my life, and if I'm not able to find someone on my own, what does it matter if my grandfather does it? I'll give myself the chance to meet this girl. If my grandfather says she's a good woman, she surely is; he has a knack for understanding people. It will only be three years, it's not much, and they'll pass quickly.
