Chapter 44Three hours later, Charlie and Nolan were riding a bus--Virgil's bus, not their own. It wouldn't stop anywhere near their neighborhood, but that was fine with them. It was all part of the plan. They'd told the driver they were taking a different bus because they needed to get to a study group at a friend's place...not that the driver cared. In fact, he hadn't even answered; he'd just gone on reading something on his phone like they weren't even there. He didn't say a word later, either, when the bullies went to town on Virgil. Charlie counted six of them, all boys, all sitting and standing around Virgil and giving him crap about his impending beating.
