Chapter 16That night, after Nil training, Charlie was home in her room when she heard the doorbell ring. Moments later, Mom called her to come to the front door.
Charlie was irritated as she marched down the hall. She'd been in the middle of continuing the online search for dirt on Gantry and Devon, which she'd picked up again right after supper. Whoever was at the door, they couldn't be as important as the Alex Chang case.
At least, that was what she thought until she rounded the corner and saw Nolan Elliot standing in the doorway, talking to Mom.
"Hey, Charlie." He smiled and waved.
Charlie's heart was hammering, but she managed a wave of her own. "Hi, Nolan." What was he doing there? What did he want? Had he come because he was Conscience and she hadn't texted him all day?
