Chapter 52The girl in the hood had dark brown, shoulder-length hair, parted in the middle and pushed behind her lumpy, cauliflower ears. Deep green eyes framed a lopsided nose, tipped to the left, which gave her two different profiles. Her round face had a puffy, swollen look, especially around the cheeks, eyes, and chin.
Charlie recognized her instantly. She hadn't seen her for ages, but she could never forget that distinctive face.
"Donna?" she said. "Donna Marker?"
"Good for you. You remember me." Donna stepped toward her.
Charlie nodded. She remembered Donna well...remembered what she had once meant to her. She also remembered how things had gone wrong between them.
And that, for the first time, made Charlie realize what had brought the fury of Conscience down upon her. S
