Chapter 57Two weeks later... "A fat full moon hung low in the cloudless sky, casting its bright silver glow over the streets of Vichyburg. It was Sunday night, and downtown was quiet; according to the City Hall clock tower, the time was just after midnight. Back in the bad old days, it had been Charlie's favorite time to hike the streets and search her soul. Now, it was her favorite time again, but not because she needed escape from the nightmare of Conscience. It was her favorite time because Nolan was with her, holding her hand. It had been two weeks since the shooting at Baker Dam, and he was fully recovered. He'd spent some time in the hospital--lying that he'd suffered a hunting accident to defuse potential hassles--but he was all better now, other than the occasional headache.
