THE BLAST DID A NUMBER on the ship. Ru spent a few hours trying to determine the extent of the damage after they made it through the gate, but after scanning all of the obvious systems, the only conclusion he had was that it was too early to tell. When he was certain that they weren’t being pursued and the auto-pilot would last for at least a few hours, he took the time to get some actual rest. Lis made herself scarce, though he wasn’t quite sure why. If it weren’t for her, he would be dead. Untrained though her technique was, she’d laid down enough fire to combat an entire army, not merely one blast from a Polan defense satellite.
