When Charles heard it was Julia calling, he immediately softened his voice, "I'll bring it to you tomorrow."
I scoffed at him. "We're not even divorced yet, and you're sleeping with someone else? Charles, you really are something!"
With that, I shoved him out of the car and drove off, ignoring the anger that surged behind me.
That night, Charles returned in a rage. He yanked me out of bed, and we had a wild night together.
The next morning, when I woke up, he was already gone for work. On the bedside table, I found a set of precious ruby jewelry.
Suddenly, all the aches in my body disappeared as I picked up the necklace and examined it. This shine must be worth hundreds of thousands.
Just then, the doorbell rang, and I thought Charles had come back. I threw on a robe and rushed to open the door, my smile freezing in an instant.
Standing outside was Julia.
She had a smile on her face, but when she caught sight of the hickeys on my neck, her expression went pale.
"How much do you want to leave Charles?" Julia asked directly.
I laughed. "The amount I need is a bottomless pit. You can't afford it."
Julia shot back, "He helped me in that way yesterday. Don't you feel humiliated?"
I shrugged, "His company just went public. Rumors of divorce will hurt the stock price. You don't stand a chance."
Julia screamed through her tears, "If I hadn't left a few years ago, he wouldn't have married you at all! Do you have any idea how much he loves me?"
I looked at her coldly, letting my robe slip off my shoulder to reveal a cluster of hickeys. "This kind of love? It's not that special."
The sight of the hickey shocked Julia, and her voice turned sharp as she said, "We've never used protection. He told me he wants a child with me."
'Child?' That word hit me like a knife. I once had a child with Charles. But he had said, "Fiona, we're too busy with work right now. It's not the right time for a baby. Let's terminate it."
Julia noticed I was lost in thought and sneered, "You don't know, do you? Charles promised me he wouldn't let any other woman have his child."
I felt as if a hole had been drilled into my heart, and the pain was almost suffocating. I clenched my fists and forced a smile, saying, "As long as I don't get divorced, your child will just be an unacknowledged illegitimate one."
Julia's expression turned icy. "Is that so? Then let's see who he loves more, you or me."
'Does Charles love me? Maybe he does.' When he proposed, his eyes were filled with warmth, and our wedding was grand and luxurious, making me feel like a princess.
It wasn't until Julia came into the picture that I realized it had all been an illusion.
The first time I met Julia, she splashed water on herself and then yelled, "Fiona, why did you do this to me?"
I was taken aback, but in the next moment, Charles shot me a cold glance and said, "Apologize to Julia."
