CHAPTER 2 “Tessa” with a look of great shock on her face. Tessa was her close friend in college but they lost contact after she and her parents moved out of town. Her biggest surprise was how she found her address, she already had a lot of questions in her head for her. “Won't you hug me, or you just want to stand there and stare at me” opening her arms to receive a warm hug from Rosaline. Rosaline jumped into her open arms and embraced her tightly Rosaline “where’ve you been” tightening her hug a bit. “My bad, come in please” opening the door wider and stretching arm into the house. “Wow Rosaline! You have a nice apartment” she could not help but open her mouth in shock. The last time Tessa saw Rosaline she was still living with her grandmother, so for her it was shocking that it just took Rosaline 1 year to get to this level. She jumped on the couch without caring what Rosaline would say. “Tessa, I have a lot to ask, '' sitting on the armchair in the sitting room. Tessa paid full attention with keen interest willing to answer any question Rosaline was about to throw to her “How did you know my apartment to start with?” placing her hand under her jaw to get a reasonable reply to her question. “Well I did some neighbourhood research” crossing her leg and relaxing fully on the sofa. “What is the next question? I do not want you questioning my research” getting up to reach for the refrigerator. “Well, where have you been?” Rosaline quickly asked another question. “Oh about that” opening a bottle of soda she found in the fridge. “My parents moved to Texas and I followed them so that we could all settle in” having a sit on the sofa again. “So, What....” “It is my turn to ask now” Tessa quickly interrupted Rosaline. “How did you get the money for such an apartment” taking a drink from her soda. Rosaline at this point just heaved a sigh and smiled. “Is that your problem now Tessa”. “Yes of course, I need to share in your success story” she quickly replied. “Well if I tell you what I do I do not think you will see it as a success” wearing a look of sadness. “Are you a stripper or something” ignoring the sad look on Rosaline’s face. “No! Fine, I get hired to work as a contract girlfriend or partner” giving Tessa a firm stir. “Easy Rosaline I was just being inquisitive” gesturing to her to calm down. Rosaline was already sad and she just walked into her room and just laid on the bed. Tessa followed her immediately and quickly apologized. She further added that there was nothing wrong with her job. And there was no need for her to feel bad. They both spent the day together telling stories about happenings in their life. It was already evening so Tessa decided to head home. “Do you stay close?” Rosaline asked. “Well my parents rented an apartment for me a few blocks away” pointing east wards. “ I’ll get going” hugging Rosaline as they bid each other goodbye. For Rosaline she really had a good day because Tessa has always been a very good friend and they never had a dull moment together. A call came into her phone and quickly reached out for her phone on the sofa. It was one of her clients requesting for her services tonight. It was going to be a joint date and she decided to look her best for this. Besides, there was no violence involved. She quickly made her way to the shower to quickly freshen up. Her choice for tonight was a green pencil velvet dress. In no time her client was already at her doorstep to pick her up. She took a green handbag to match the dress and left for work. “You look stunning tonight” Garry a black American young man complimented her, opening the door to the car. As he drove to the venue he quickly narrated to her how the deal was going to go and Rosaline was happy, at least this was just a peaceful dinner date between couples nothing more. “I hope you know my pay is very important” giving off a firm look to her client. “Of course, had that ever been a problem” looking at Rosaline with a sharp smile on his lips. They both held hands as they walked into the restaurant. Sure, I was in a very classy restaurant. One of the biggest in town. The second couple were yet to arrive so they both just sat patiently until the awaited couples made their way into the restaurant as well. Rosaline could not believe her eyes. She did not expect that one of the partners would be someone she knew. It was Rebecca, one of her college mates. Though they were not too close she felt nervous at this moment. The two couples had their seats. And immediately Rebecca screamed “Rosaline!” offering a hand shake. “Babe you both know each other?” Garry asked. “Sure we both went to the same college” pulling her hand from the handshake. Rosaline had already started feeling tense but she just played along and continued to make her act look very real. She would regularly peck Garry as they all had a conversation while eating their meal. She regularly tried to keep up the smile on her face but she could feel the desire to break down in tears. Well, she had every reason to feel bad. Her friend was well settled with through and was just faking relationships to make a living. She tried to stop the depression from getting to her most times. But it kept on coming most of the time without stopping. She quickly stood up from the table after whispering to Garry.
