Chapter 13: Walls Crack

260 Words
His entire body goes rigid. His hands slide from my face to my shoulders, grip firm, grounding. His eyes search mine with an intensity that steals my breath. And for once the mask cracks. “Tire of you?” His voice comes out raw, almost broken. He steps back-just enough to look at you properly, like he’s seeing something that terrifies him. His throat works, swallowing hard. I watch his Adam’s Apple bob up & down. One hand lifts to your cheek, trembling against your skin. His thumb traces your cheek bone with devastating gentleness. I lean into it. “Ashley, I’ve dismantled companies for less than what I feel when you walk into a room.” “Talking to you these past 6 months has done nothing but confirm what I already knew.” He pulls you closer-desperate now, all pretense of control gone. His forehead presses to mine, his breaths uneven. “You think this is temporary?” “You think I’d risk everything I built just to let you go?” His fingers tangle in my hair, holding me like I might disappear. “Tell me what I need to do. Tell me how to prove you’re the only thing I’m afraid of losing.” “I’ve heard you’ve never taken a woman to your penthouse.” “That’s true.” He says. “I’ve never had a woman I thought was worthy enough to share that space with me.” “Take me to your penthouse Adam.” “Prove to me I’m worthy enough.”
