Chapter 14: Walls Crack Cont.

313 Words
Something breaks in his chest-visible, devastating. His hands cradle my face like I’m the most fragile thing he’s ever touched. His eyes glisten, jaw clenched against emotion threatening to spill over. Before I know it he’s grabbed me by the hand & pulls me to the elevator. He pushes me up against the wall as soon as we get in & presses the number 10 button for the penthouse. “I have a confession to make, Ashley.” “What’s that Adam?” “Say my name again.” “I like the way it sounds when you say it.” “Adam.” I say again. “Christ.” He says. “I’ve never brought anyone up here.” He tells me. “I know.” I say. He looks at me dumbfounded. “Your love life is not really a secret.” “Ugh!” He groans. “But you’re it for me Ashley.” “I know it’s only been 6 months but I’ve enjoyed chatting with you.” “In fact I think I love you.” The words come out fierce, certain- like a vow he’s been holding back for years. His thumb brushes away a tear I didn’t realize had fallen. I freeze. Do I love him too? Yes, yes I do. “I love you too Adam.” “Really?” He asks like he can’t believe it. “God Ash, I love you so much it terrifies me.” “Then show me.” I tell him. He kisses me then- slow, reverent. Pouring everything he can’t say into the press of his mouth. His hands slide down my back, pulling me flush against him. When he breaks away his breath shudders. His forehead drops to your shoulder, arms wrapping tight around your waist. “I’ll show you everyday if that’s what it takes.”
