Oh f**k I'm caught! Is all Sarah can think as Ashten is questioning why she wants to leave the party early. Ashten is standing close enough to her that if she moves an inch forward, she'll accidentally touch him. She needs an excuse to leave, and she needs it quickly. Then, she remembered her pet dog, Lila at home.
"I just got a message from my dad saying that my dog isn't feeling too well, and I need to come home right now to check on her, I really wish I could stay for the cake. Give Damian my best wishes for his birthday and new school," Sarah says, doing her best to remain calm even though she is freaking the hell out in her head. Ashten looks her over, trying to figure out if she's telling the truth, and after what felt like hours, he smiles at her and backs away.
"Well alright, go home to your pup. We can bring you a piece of cake by later after all," Ashten smiles. He heads into the ballroom where the party is being held before Sarah can protest them bringing her a piece of cake. Well, I'm f****d. They'll find me if I stay at my house. Damn it, I need a place to hide, at least for the night. Sarah texts her dad immediately, asking if she can go to a friend's house for the night after the party. He says yes, but to come home and change first. Overjoyed and relieved Sarah agrees. She rushes home with the help of a friend heading that direction, and changes out of her costume and starts texting all of her friends if she can spend the night there, with the excuse of hanging out one more time before I go to college. Her friend Hunter, agrees. It had been a long time since their last hang out after all. Hunter says he'll be by to pick her up after the party since he is staying until after the cake cutting, Mrs. Moonstone's cakes are delectable after all. Sarh agrees to this, after all, the Manor is thirty minutes away. Damian shouldn't be able to sense her aura from that distance, but how Zander and Damian can sense auras is a question that Sarah wanted the answer for, not badly enough to go back to the party and risk being caught though. Just then Sarah's phone buzzes, it's a text from Penny.
Sarah! OMG I found Damian, and he says I get to help cut the cake! I want to introduce you to him ASAP! Where are you at right now, cause I don't see you anywhere. Text me back - Penny
Damn it Penny! I'm not f*****g there anymore, but I can't tell you where I am. What do I tell her? Sarah thinks as she reads this message over and over again. The feeling of dread is just building as she knows her best friend will catch on if she has any suspicion of Sarah lying whatsoever. Then Sarah gets an idea, a lie that just might work, she texts Penny back.
Girl I can't believe that you actually found him! I wish I could meet him but I had to run to the store for feminine products as Lila thought the ones I had would be fun to shred. I'm so sorry, but I hope you have fun.
Hopefully Penny believes this, because Sarah can't risk Penny dropping by her house with Damian. She can't be caught by the Moonstone family, it would throw her life upside down. All of her dreams to go to college and law school would be gone, her dreams to travel the world with Penny would vanish too. Sarah won't allow that to happen. Plus what about her dad? She can't tell him her exact plans, but she wants to give him a good life after all he's done for her. He sacrificed so much for Sarah, especially after her mom passed away when Sarah was four years old. Her dad means the world to Sarah, and that's why she wants to be a lawyer. She wants to make enough money to give her and her dad an easy life together, one where they won't struggle, one where they can relax and enjoy life, a life with no more tired nights. She can't let the Moonstones interfere with her goals.
Sarah kept an eye on the clock as she packed a bag to go over to Hunter's house for the night. As she is finishing up there's a knock on her room door, it's her dad, Liam.
"Sarah? You alright with me coming into your room right now honey?" he asks her kindly through the door. He's always so kind and respectful of her space. Sarah says of course he can come in, and the door opens. Her dad is standing there looking tired as always, but happy too. He sits down next to Sarah on her bed and holds something in his hand, it looks like a note.
