Chapter Four! Violet’s POV My blood ran cold, my heart sprang up to my throat in that moment. Seeing my life flashing before my eyes, I reacted quickly, falling back just in time. The sound of screeching tires was jarring and I instinctively placed my hands on my ears. The car soon hit a nearby light pole, forcefully coming to a halt. My buckling knees lost strength, sending me to the ground. 'That was so close. So scary,' I thought, placing my right hand on my heaving chest, my breaths erratic. 'Breathe, Violet, breathe!' I internally encouraged myself. The crash had naturally got the attention of many and I watched as several people curiously flocked to the car's spot. With my breathing now almost steady, I rose from the ground, smoothening the creases on my clothes. Then curiosity got me walking towards the crowd. The one who drove the car had come out, weak and a little injured, same as his partner. The wailing of police sirens soon caught everyone's attention. I, along with the others, could only watch as the officers nabbed the two men and put them into the car. Turns out these two were on a run from the police earlier. Had they tried to rob a bank or something? With the police vehicle having zoomed away, the crowd naturally dispersed and people started miling about. I decided to walk for a bit because with what happened earlier, I had been thrown into a swivet. Along the way, I met a former patient, Mrs Meyer was it...? She was taking her dog for a walk. I had a soft spot for pets, so after exchanging pleasantries with her, I played a little with her cute dog, Lylia. I felt a little saddened when it was time to part. Maybe I should buy one from the pets shop, but I doubted it would live long. Kate might murder it before I get home from work. She had once told me she'd rather be next to a live lion than have an annoying pet. Sighting a roadside noodle restaurant up ahead, I decided to fill my stomach before going home because I wouldn't be able to whip up anything after cleaning up. Before long, I was already guzzling the noodles, feeling even more thankful to be alive. I paid the bill and shuffled to the pavement where I successfully hailed a taxi. Reaching home, I found Kate wasn't around. 'Where did she go at this time?' I wondered as I ambled to my room. The bed and pillows were calling out to me and the temptation was almost impossible to resist. But I forcefully tore my eyes away from them and left for the bathroom. A warm shower and nice smelling shampoo was on of the best things in the world. I couldn't help moaning in relief as the water sluiced down my body, relaxing all the previously tense nerves. I later changed into my favorite silk night gown and was ready to hit the bed when I recalled my favorite Tv show would be airing at this time. I looked at the time on my phone, it was 9:30 already. So I rushed to the sitting room and collapsed on the couch, grabbing the TV remote and changing the channel. I was five minutes late but it wasn't too late. I watched with apt interest, soon shaking in amusement at some of the participants words and actions. Whatever fragment of tiredness there was, it had already fled my body. At the midpoint of the show, I suddenly heard a knock on the door. I wanted to ignore it but I heard even more knocks, causing me to scowl. Who could it be at this time of the night? Kate wouldn't knock because she had a spare key with her. Or did she perhaps lose it? I reluctantly got off the couch and padded to the door. Looking through the peephole, I saw that it was that mysterious man of yesterday. I still didn't know his name and didn't care to know. Was he here for Kate his 'Saviour'? He continued knocking and with intent to shoo him away, I opened the door in a swift motion. "Kate isn't home yet. Please wait outside till she comes back," I quickly said. But then his gaze at me suddenly turned intense. I felt oxygen trying to escape me and started gasping in fear. This man was dangerous, I had to go in quickly. But when I noticed his firm grip on my hand, my face paled. "What are you doing? Let me go!" I yelled but my words fell on deaf ears. He pulled me closer to him, snaking a hand around my waist. "Mate! You're mine!" his voice was much deeper than usual, like he was growling. What was wrong with him? I pushed against his firm chest, ordering him to let me go but he instead inclined his head, "Only I get to hold you like this, mate," His devilish grin made me even more terrified. Could anyone save me from this man? He pushed away the hair strands on my right shoulder, exposing my fair neck and before I knew it, he had... bitten me? Damn that hurt. It hurt so bad! What kind of teeth did he have? I pressed against his shoulders weakly, my legs were feeling jelly, and I was feeling a strange and indescribable sensation going through me. He finally raised his head and licked his lips, "Violet, mine!" His face soon became hazy, it was like the world was spinning so fast. I could feel the pain in my neck dulling fast and the weird sensation in my system surged faster. Amidst this all, I had the overwhelming urge to sleep. And just like that, I saw... darkness.
