When we land in front of the drawbridge, Marcus looks up in awe, squinting his eyes into the sunlight. He wraps his arms around himself, nervously chewing on his lip. “AH!” He squeals in terror when the giant drawbridge begins to lower with a series of rusty clanks, cowering behind my wings like a scared little boy. “Marcus,” I say with a groan, “It’s fine. There’s nothing to be afraid of.” “That’s easy for you to say!” He whines, “Your brain is still intact.” I rub my eyes in frustration again. “Let’s go.” I put my arm around his shoulder and lead him across the murky moat and through the courtyard.
