Selene’s POV

I didn’t mind the thorns that cut through my skin as I ran into the woods. I didn’t look back at whatever was coming for me. I kept running as fast as I could.

I took a turn and ran blindly along the path. I had no direction in mind or any idea where I was headed. I just wanted to be as far away from the Red Moon Pack as possible.

But all of a sudden, they stopped coming after me.

I couldn’t see the shadows of their wolves anymore.

I slowed my pace and glanced back. They had stopped and were watching me run.

I looked away from them and kept going, but I wanted to know why they had stopped and weren’t coming after me anymore.

But I kept going. This wasn’t the time for me to keep wondering. My whole life was at stake.

I came to a sudden halt when I saw some werewolves running in my direction. I didn’t know where to run to. They were in their wolf forms, and some of them were wounded.

They were running from something.

I squatted and covered my head with my hands as they ran past me. Whether they knew I was there or not, I didn’t know. They just ran past me.

I looked around. They had already passed me and continued running.

I stayed down. I didn’t know what was ahead of me just yet.

“They are running away, Alpha!” someone yelled.

“Get them! None must be let out!” another authoritative voice ordered.

I started to crawl, hoping they hadn’t seen me yet.

“Go faster and get them!”

“None of those rogues must escape after they invaded my pack,” he ordered.

I kept trying to duck out of sight, but they were coming toward me.

I started to run.

“Get her!”

“No!” I screamed as I ran. “I’m not a rogue!”

But who was going to believe me?

I had escaped from the Red Moon Pack. I didn’t even have a pack pass, and I didn’t belong anywhere.

I was a rogue.

That was why they didn’t pay any attention to what I said. There was no way I could outrun a wolf with just my feet.

The huge brown wolf jumped on me and pinned me down by the shoulder. I crashed onto the grass with my stomach against the ground.

I groaned and tried to fight back, but he was huge. There was no way I could push him off me when he had me pinned to the ground, his fangs digging into my shoulder.

“Got one,” he said in his wolf voice.

His yellow eyes shone as he looked at me. I watched them twinkle for a moment before the spark disappeared.

He pulled me up and shifted into his human form.

“I’m not a rogue!” I screamed. My shoulder was bleeding, and I pressed my hand over the wound, desperately trying to make him believe me.

He slowly turned to face me.

I noticed his long black hair, the old scar on his back, his sharp features, and his brown eyes. He was a beautiful male wolf—the one who had caught me.

He gave me a cocky smile.

“I didn’t expect you to agree to it,” he said. “If you aren’t a rogue, tell me, where are you from? What are you doing here at this time?” He snorted.

“What are you waiting for?” he barked at the two other wolves behind him. They had already shifted into their human forms.

He didn’t give me any chance to reply.

“Get her.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

The wolves that had run past me earlier were all brought back in chains. They were being dragged with chains around their necks and hands.

“Take her with them.”

“No.”

“I’m not one of them!” I tried to reach out to him with my wounded shoulder, but he didn’t bother to spare me a glance. He kept walking, making sure the other rogues were properly chained.

“Of course,” he snickered.

The one holding me struck me at the back of my neck and pushed me forward. I grew weak as he hit me again.

They dragged me along, chained my hands and feet along with the rogues, and started pulling us away.

“I am…” My eyes were spinning, and my voice was failing me. I couldn’t hear my own voice anymore or make sense of whatever was happening around me. All I remembered was being chained.

I was struck over the head again, and my head dropped.

When I opened my eyes again, I was in a dungeon.

And it wasn’t just me in there.

There were five other she-wolves. We were all seated with our hands chained to the wall and our legs chained to each other.

My eyes fluttered for another minute before settling on the dark cobwebs above my head.

I tried to move my hand, but I couldn’t.

“You can’t move…” a girl said.

She looked a bit older than me, probably in her twenties. Her face was disheveled.

“And you can’t leave here either.”

“I’m not part of you. I’m not a rogue.”

“But you have no pack behind you. If you ain’t a rogue, you have to prove you came from somewhere. Where do you come from?” she asked.

I slowly turned my gaze back to her.

“I was part of the rogue group that attacked a pack.”

“Nobody will believe you, not even the Alpha.”

“But you do.”

She laughed.

“What if you’re just looking for a way out of here because you want to escape death? Well…”

“Alpha Roger isn’t that kind of man.”

“This is all a mistake!” I insisted.

She rolled her eyes at me and dropped her head against the wall.

“We were all captured at the same time. Don’t try to act all innocent. We are all going to face death.”

She closed her eyes and exhaled as if she had already accepted her fate.

But not me.

I kept struggling, trying to figure out if I could pull the chains apart, but they were made of restrained silver.

And without a wolf, it would be harder for me to do it.

A guard came to the iron bars.

“You’ve two hours to tell the Alpha who was behind the attack on our pack, or else you are all going to face the same fate,” he announced.

“I would rather die than speak,” the girl from earlier said.

“Are you out of your mind?” I half-yelled at her.

I quickly turned to the guard, grabbing the iron bar with my free hand.

“I’m not part of them! I was wrongly captured. I have no idea what’s going on. And if I knew who did it, I would tell you, but I have no idea, and I won’t lose my life because of her!”

He stared at me and scoffed.

“You must be crazy.”

“No, I’m perfectly fine!”

He shook his head.

“That’s not going to save you.”

“You have to listen to me!” I screamed. “You have to let me go! I have done nothing wrong!”

But he simply walked away from me.
