Alpha Lyrien Bingley
I tapped my fingers gently over my lap and waited for her to come in. The door opened, and I heard the clicking sound of heels.
He said I wouldn’t be disappointed, but I was disappointed when I saw her. She wasn’t as I had imagined—not with the way he had described her.
“Alpha Lyrien.” She curtsied. “I have heard a lot about you from my father, and it’s a pleasure to meet you. Knowing that you came here for my birthday means a lot to me.”
“I’m Morgan.” She smiled brightly.
“I’m quite aware that you’re the fake princess.”
Her smile faltered a bit, and she tilted her head toward Alpha Marcus. The smile remained only at the corner of her lips.
“He doesn’t mean it that way.” Alpha Marcus tried to soothe her, and her eyes returned to me.
“I don’t know what you’ve heard, but it’s clearly different from the truth, Alpha.” She muttered.
“I never intended on being fake or false, or however you might have seen it. It was all a misunderstanding.”
“And you never bothered to correct the misunderstanding?” I asked, resting a hand against my jawline.
“I tried, but with everything that happened, everyone had to make a choice. I loved my parents; they had been good to me. I was ready to share everything with her, but it was a difficult situation.”
I snorted and shook my head slightly. Something just didn’t seem right.
“She already had her name stained with the murder she committed, and you imagined her as the Alpha’s daughter. What will they think of our pack and the Alpha himself for having such a daughter?”
“I was only doing what was right, and everyone wants that for me as the Alpha’s princess.” She tucked her hair behind her ear after she finished speaking and stared at Alpha Marcus, who nodded at her with a smile.
Each time they exchanged glances, my wolf and I immediately sensed something suspicious. I couldn’t ignore it.
Morgan was more manipulative than I had thought. She looked harmless, but she wasn’t genuine at all.
Nothing about her felt right.
“And I hope you don’t get the wrong impression of me, Alpha Lyrien. I would never hurt anyone.” She placed a hand over her chest, as if trying to make a promise that she wouldn’t.
“I have nothing against you, Princess Morgan. I was rather entertained by everything I heard happened at the pack two years ago.”
“And I was also informed about your betrothal to Beta Caleb.”
She smiled shyly. “Caleb has been good to me, but I’m ready to explore other options.”
I nodded and turned to her father.
“I will get back to you with the contract in the morning.”
“I thought you were going to make a decision right here.” He glanced at Morgan. “That way, we can get through it.”
“Is that what you want?” I asked.
“Excuse us, Morgan.” He gestured for her to leave the office. She lowered her head toward me before stepping out.
“Yes, Alpha.”
“That’s what I want. I want to be able to announce our business arrangement to every other Alpha who will be present tonight.”
I leaned forward with my hands folded on the desk, and he pushed the paperwork back toward me. I stared at it briefly.
“If you give me Selene, I will make the contract.”
His eyes widened at my request, and I watched him stutter, trying to form a coherent sentence. But I had already said what I wanted.
“You want Selene?”
“Haven’t you seen Morgan? I thought you might think she was a better choice. Do you need a house help?”
“I do need a personal maid. I believe Selene is hardworking enough to be one for me.”
He laughed shortly and tapped his hands on the desk.
“I can’t give you Selene, Alpha.”
“I don’t think you want the deal, then.”
“But it was never about this.”
“And I never said coming to your pack was to process the deal we made.”
“I thought…” He stopped and stared at the paperwork he had pushed toward me, flustered for another minute.
“If you want this, you will give her to me, and I will take her out of the pack when I leave tomorrow.”
“But Alpha Lyrien, you don’t know Selene. She is…”
“You said her wolf is bound. I don’t think she would be able to do anything but work for me as my maid.”
He stood up and walked around his desk for a moment. He didn’t sit down immediately; instead, he stood beside me for another minute.
“You won’t have to worry about her again. I will take her away with me. We will leave your pack at dawn, Morgan will keep acting as your daughter, and nobody will ever know about the deal we made,” I added.
Alpha Marcus held my gaze for a long second.
“If you don’t want it, you can forget about the contract, and I will take my leave.”
I pushed the chair backward to get up, but he held my arm, stopping me from moving.
“I don’t think Selene will be able to do anything for you.”
“She worked for the pack house, and I told you I need a personal maid. Consider offering her to me.”
“Over the contract?” he asked.
I nodded.
“Isn’t that fair? You’re getting what you want, and I’m getting what I want. I think that’s fair enough.”
He moved back to his seat and sat down. His arms stretched over the table as he grabbed a pen.
“Sign it.”
He pushed the contract toward me.
“That’s if you keep your word and write below the signature that you’re giving Selene to me.”
He nodded and wrote it down before pushing the contract back to me.
I picked it up and stared at it. Her name was written at the bottom.
I took the pen and signed the document.
