“Ashley, you’ll be late for work. Remember, you’ll be heading to the airport first,” Lilly reminded.
I groaned but got up from bed. I had forgotten my schedule today. Last night was too much for me to remember. I looked through the mirror and gave myself a smile. I can do this.
I glanced through my phone only to see ten missed calls from my assistant. Yes, I’ll be resuming work today. It’s about time I start working. I’m tired of hide and seek. I need to show my presence. It’s about time for the whole world to know who the real CEO of the Wright Company is.
This will come as a shocker to all of them. I smirked. I can’t wait. I decided to take my bath before calling my assistant to ask why she was calling so early. I had the best bath ever—warm and cozy, just the way I like it.
I had already purchased so many clothes. I have enough to select from. A particular dress caught my attention. It’s a grey dress. I smiled and picked it out. This is what I’ll be wearing.
I changed into the dress. I combed my hair and put it up in a ponytail. I did my makeup since I was now good at it. Lilly has been a good teacher, by the way. I smiled after seeing the perfect work I did.
My stilettos were ready. I put them on and picked out a designer bag. I was ready to go. I walked out of the room, and my nostrils were filled with the smell of coffee. Lilly was already having her breakfast.
“Finally, you came,” she said and told me to sit. The maid came with my coffee and toast as usual.
“So how do you feel about the reveal?” she asked.
I shrugged. “I feel good. I don’t think it’s such a big deal.”
She huffed. “It’s actually a big deal. You’ll be shown on TV, Ashley. Do you know how big you are?”
I chuckled. “Well, I can’t wait. The jail girl they all love to call me is now a CEO.”
“I’ll pay to see the looks on their faces when they find out,” Lilly said, and I agreed with her. I can’t wait.
We ended up finishing our meal at the same time. She needed to be at her company. Lilly is big too. She got a driver for me, and he was already waiting outside. She left first.
I got into the waiting car. I was driven to my company. Well, my company. The joy.
I peeped through my phone, and already the paparazzi were waiting to see who it was. Well then. It was a cozy ride, by the way.
The car finally came to a stop. I could see the security trying to calm the crowd. It’s crowded. I never expected it to be this way. Didn’t know I was too important for people to want to see me. My company’s name must have lots of power for them to be waiting. I smirked at the thought.
The driver continued the ride inside the building. I instructed them to lock all the gates and ensure that the paparazzi stay outside. None of them should be let inside. I’ll let them know when I’m ready to speak with them.
“Welcome, ma’am,” my secretary Ruth greeted.
I nodded. “What do you have for me today?”
She followed me as I walked into the company. This is the first time the remaining employees would see me. All my conversations with them were through Ruth. She is the only one who knew who I was, and I see she kept it a secret, which is a good thing.
The shock on the staff’s faces at seeing that I was a lady made me mentally roll my eyes. They all greeted me immediately when they saw my stern face. They should know by now that I’m a no-nonsense lady.
“Welcome, ma’am,” I heard them all chorused.
Ruth followed me to the elevator. She briefed me on what I should know about the situation in the company.
“Ma’am, there are several calls from top companies. They want to talk business with you,” she said, and I nodded.
I finally got to my office. My office was as spacious as I wanted it to be. I smiled at the whole interior. I liked it already.
“From the look on your face, ma’am, you like it,” Ruth said behind me.
I turned to her and nodded. “Yes.”
I went ahead to have a seat. “Now show me all I need to see.”
She opened the file she was holding and showed me the list of people that wanted to see me. They are all influential people. None are random.
“They all sent in their emails wanting to meet you. I told them you aren’t available, but they still keep pushing to meet you,” she said.
I went through the names, and a particular name caught my attention—Aiden Jones. Aiden?
“Yes, Mr. Aiden won’t stop calling to see you,” Ruth said when she saw my eyes on his name.
I looked up at her and said, “Set up a meeting today with Mr. Aiden.”
She was shocked. “But ma’am, there are lots of names before his. Don’t you think you should con—”
“Do as I say,” I cut her off. “Call his assistant and set up a meeting with him today.”
She nodded. “Ok, ma’am. If that’s what you want.”
Ruth finally left. I released a breath I didn’t know I was holding. This was about to get interesting. Aiden will fall to his knees begging for mercy. I will make sure to make him suffer.
I smirked at the idea. My phone rang instantly. I picked it up, and the next thing I heard was, “Mommy!”
Ethan?
“Ethan?” I said.
“Mommy, I can’t wait to meet you!” His sweet voice rang through the phone. My eyes were teary. I can’t wait to meet my son.
“Mommy? Can you hear me?”
Then I realized that I didn’t say that out loud. “I can’t wait to meet you, baby,” I said with so much happiness. My baby boy is finally in town.
I heard the phone taken from him. It was his nanny.
“Sorry about that, ma’am. He insisted on talking to you,” she said to me.
“It’s fine. The driver will take you home.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
The phone call ended. It had been four years since I last hugged my child. I’ve missed him so much.
A few minutes later, a knock was heard on my door.
“Come in,” I said.
Ruth walked inside. “Ma’am, he is here.”
I was confused. “Who is here?” I asked.
“Mr. Aiden Jones,” she revealed.
So soon? Why this soon?
“Should I bring him in now?”
I heaved a deep breath and nodded. “Sure.”
Ruth left to bring him. I tried taking a deep breath. I need to be relaxed. I need to get myself together.
Another knock was heard. He was here!
“Come in.”
The door was pulled open, and Aiden walked inside. Ruth was behind him. “Ma’am, he is here.”
I looked up, and our eyes met. Aiden stared at me, shocked. “What’s going on here?” he said in disbelief.
Ruth excused us.
I stared at him from where I was seated. “Are you going to stand there acting like you just saw a ghost?”
Aiden frowned. “Are you now Mr. Wright’s mistress? What is wrong with you, Ashley? You don’t have to go this low just to prove a point.”
What the hell! He thinks I’m sleeping with some Mr. Wright? Now I get it. The name of my company must have made him believe that I was a man.
I scoffed. “Are you kidding me right now? You don’t even have some respect. You came to my office, and you are already insulting me?”
He cackled. “Don’t make me laugh. No one is going to think you own this place. The only way you have access to this place is by sleeping with the owner. Now I need to meet Mr. Wright.”
I chuckled. “Well then, I bet you still don’t get it.”
He frowned. “There is nothing to get. I knew something was up when I received a call from your assistant. So you set the meeting up just to throw it in my face that you are sleeping with the owner?”
I felt insulted. “I won’t let you continue to speak to me in such a manner. This is the last straw, Mr. Jones. You need to choose: if you still want to talk business, then sit your ass down; if not, leave my office.”
Aiden stared at me with so much disgust. He still doesn’t want to believe that I am the owner of the company.
He rolled his eyes but ended up sitting down.
“I thought as much,” I muttered. He needs help from my company more than he thinks. I’ve heard about the crisis his company is going through. I’ll use that as an opportunity to take what he cares about most. I mentally patted myself.
My phone rang in that moment. It was the nanny calling again. What is it this time?
I picked it up. “Ma’am, we just got into an accident.”
That was all I needed. “Accident?”
Ethan, my son.
“Is everything alright?” Aiden asked, concerned.
I ended the call and picked up my bag. “I need to be at the hospital.”
I ran for the door, but Aiden grabbed me. “Wait, Ashley, you can’t go in this state. I’ll take you.”
I shook my head and pushed him away from me. “I don’t need your help. Just stay away from me,” I yelled at him and ran out of the office.
