Chapter 4

Kara I couldn't believe that. I had woken up in a hospital bed again. The name of the man I loved came to my mind. I wanted to see him. I wanted to be with him. He should be with me, not Sara. I remembered what happened before Stefan rejected me. I didn't want to think about it, but it was impossible. The rejection had caused me so much pain that I had passed out. And yet, I still wanted him by my side. I was afraid. But obviously, he didn't care. "Stefan?" I asked my doctor. He stopped reading the reports and looked at me. "Stefan isn't here, Luna. He's gone. He left you." "He left," I repeated. "Yes, I'm sorry, miss. But I can call your husband. I'll tell him you want to see him." "What did Stefan say before leaving the hospital?" "He said he had important matters to discuss with his best friend, Luna." "My best friend?" That traitor! "Yes, with Sara, Luna." "She's not my friend anymore," I declared. The doctor looked at me. He was curious to know the reason, but he said nothing. I felt disappointed. It was clear. Stefan was now living a happy life with Sara, and I didn't matter to him. "You're weak, Kara. Your health is deteriorating," he announced worriedly. "Pregnancy is risky, Kara. Are you sure you want to go through with this? You could lose your life, Luna. You're not in a condition to be a mother." "No! I want to have my children! Don't say that, doctor!" "Luna, I'm sorry, but you could lose your life," he repeated. I didn't care. I wanted my babies to be born. It was us against the world. "I order you not to disclose the information. Erase the records. I don't want anyone to know about my pregnancy. The Alpha and I have separated. And he can't know that I'm pregnant. Stefan rejected me, and I accepted the rejection." "I imagined this would happen soon. The Alpha has been cheating on you with Sara for two months, Luna." "You knew?" "I think most of the pack knows. Rumors spread." I felt humiliated. The doctor said I couldn't leave the hospital, but I wanted to escape soon. I didn't care about my doctor's order. And I sneaked out. I arrived at the hotel and gathered my things. My body ached, but that didn't stop me. I would travel far from the city. But I didn't have a planned destination. I called a taxi to go to the airport. I saw Sara before getting into the car. Was she waiting for me? "What are you doing here?" I demanded to know. "I came to see you." "I'm leaving. I don't have time for your nonsense, Sara." "You're leaving? Great! Finally, I can live my happy life with Stefan," Sara celebrated. "I hope you're happy with him. Be careful, b***h. He might do to you what he did to me." "Stefan will never do that to me. Never come back to the city, Kara. Neither you nor your children." No! "I don't know what you're talking about, Sara." "Don't lie. I know you're pregnant. And if you dare to come back to the city, I'll kill you and your children. I hope rejection as Luna kills you before your pregnancy ends." Her words were cruel. How dare she say something so horrible to me? I hated her. I got into the taxi. I went to the airport. My husband left me, and my family turned their backs on me. A new life awaited me somewhere else. Stefan I opened my desk drawer. I had never locked my drawers, but since I started a relationship with Sara, I had to. Why? Because I was hiding a photograph of Kara and me. It was one picture from our happy wedding. I didn't want Sara to find out because I knew we would fight. Kara... Beloved Kara... The greatest and purest love I had ever known. The most beautiful woman I had ever seen. My ex-mate. It had been a month since Kara left the pack and disappeared. I never knew where she had gone. Her parents didn't know either, but they were worried about their daughter. "Now you're worried about her? You hurt her a lot, Stefan," my best friend scolded me. Since Luna left, he hadn't stopped talking about her. I never stopped caring about Kara. I never stopped loving her. I acted cold, but my love for her was never a lie. I had fallen in love with Kara. I loved her with all my heart. However, Luna thought I didn't care about our relationship. One night, after work, I stopped at a bar. Sara was there. We drank together and got drunk. Sara and I blacked out and had s*x. I got Sara pregnant. She confessed it to me a few weeks later, and I believed her. The dates matched. That child was mine. Kara would never forgive me for what I had done to her. My mind clouded, and Sara badmouthed Luna: she said that Luna didn't love me and that she was my wife out of convenience. I never believed Sara, but I pretended to. Still, I told Kara that I wanted a divorce. I rejected her, and she accepted. Why did she accept? Why didn't she fight for our marriage? Sara was right. Kara didn't love me. Otherwise, she would have fought for me. "Yes, I know, I'm an i***t. But I found out that she doesn't love me." "Why are you so sure?" "Because Kara didn't fight for our love." My friend wasn't happy with my response. "The day will come when you see her with another man, and you'll regret leaving her. Sara is pregnant, and it's your fault." Sara was almost three months pregnant, but she wasn't the one I wanted to have children with. "Shut up!" Imagining Lena with another man made me angry. "Why are we talking about Kara, Scott? Did you come here to talk about her?" "No. I came because I heard something important. I overheard Kara's doctor talking about her." Did the doctor know about her pain? Was Luna in good health? "And?" Scott took a medical record from his backpack. He handed it to me, and I reviewed it. I was shocked. "I know it's hard to believe, Stefan. You left your pregnant wife on the streets with your child. Are you happy?" Scott resented me for what I had done. Everyone in the pack loved Kara. Now that Sara had taken Luna's place, I could feel people looking at me without understanding the reason for my actions. "And that's not all. Remember the rumor of the curse? The curse that befalls an Alpha when he rejects his Luna." I read Kara's medical history. RESULT OF PATIENT KARA HOMS' PREGNANCY: POSITIVE. "No, she can't be pregnant, my friend... You're mistaken. You don't know what you're saying," I assimilated. "Do you think it's a mistake, Stefan? Are you going to tell yourself that story? You know what you're seeing is real. She's pregnant." "It just can't be possible, Scott! Kara would never do this to me! She's gone from here! She took my children with her!" "And you cheated on her with her best friend. I'm sorry. You're my best friend, but you deserve what's happening. Kara left because she wanted to start a new life. Her life changed because you asked for a divorce. She no longer knows you, Stefan. She's afraid of you." Guilt. Guilt. Guilt. "It can't be," I took a seat. My blood pressure dropped. I would not stand idly by. My duty was to find Kara and confront her. "And it's not just that, Stefan," Scott concluded. "What are you talking about? Do you have more information?" I furrowed my brows. "Your children... There are two." "Two?" Scott nodded. I knew what that meant.
