I didn't go home. I didn't want to be there alone. I looked for the person who provided me with security. The only person I felt I could trust was Derek. I arrived at his workplace and walked to his office. The employees (my coworkers) watched me, wondering why I was crying. They didn't know about my relationship with Derek, but I think they figured it out because I entered his office without asking.
I closed the door. Derek got up from his desk and looked at me with concern.
"Kara, what happened? Are you okay? Why are you crying, love?" He walked towards me and hugged me. "I love you, darling. Everything will be fine."
I pulled away to look him in the eyes.
"Kara, what's on your face?" he asked me.
"What?"
"You're bruised," Derek replied. He handed me a mirror
