"Ivan, there must be some misunderstanding. I've never met Serene's mother."
Wendy squeezed out the words with difficulty. Ivan narrowed his eyes and let out a cold laugh.
"Wendy, I already checked everything. The last person she saw was you.
"I trusted you so much. Do you even understand that her mother was her only family?
"I did not do it. Ivan, you have to believe me!"
Wendy denied it without hesitation.
"Wendy, I think you are refusing to confess the truth."
Ivan gave a cold snort and stopped arguing. He dragged her straight to the caregiver who had been looking after Mrs. Hale for confrontation.
His face was dark. When he saw Wendy's tearful expression, he felt nothing but disgust.
This was the woman who had fooled him, pulling him further and further away from Serene.
