I bolted as soon as the hospital door closed. It felt like Mason was scratching the inside of my brain, trying desperately to escape my hold. He was screaming profanities at me.
“I am going to find her right now. Stop panicking—we can explain how it was an innocent visit.”
“No, jackass,” Mason snapped. “You just promised to stay away from that vile woman. I see exactly what Serene sees. If you look past that innocent, pitiful, fearful mask of a girl, you can see the evil—the rot, the greed—right under the surface.”
I think that’s a bit much, Mason.
