I dropped the vial inside a safe pocket in my backpack, pecked my mother’s cheek, and headed to school. I arrived just a bit early. I got ready for training, then waited to meet Lisa before walking out onto the field. I stood next to her, holding onto her hand like it was my anchor, as I watched Fin enter the field behind Fergus.
Serene became agitated in my mind very quickly. She began pacing.
“Lacey, do you smell that? Do you feel his aura? It’s even more different than it was yesterday—like it’s rotting from the inside more every day.”
