I grinned at my phone as I looked at the message from Sydney.

Today was going perfectly. I secured my job in the kitchen, successfully had Fin in my line of fire, made Lacey very aware of my presence around him, and made her think he responded the way I wanted him to. I was a little upset that he didn’t—it’s usually easier than that—but with this little boost, he would be responding exactly how I wanted in no time.
