Lacey I finished the tea, waiting for anything to happen, but my head just felt quiet. I almost relaxed, then felt the barrier between me and Serene slam open and back shut as the darkness surged, surrounding my mind. My thoughts spun as I fought for the clarity my mother’s plant would offer. I caught it barely, holding it in my grasp as I made my way to the palace. My hands shook from the thoughts surging inside me. “You were never meant for this. You aren’t strong enough to lead. You should listen to them, fear yourself as much as they fear you.” I stumbled, grabbing onto the railing as I made my way up the stairs when hands landed on my waist, steadying me. The darkness receded for just a second, letting me see Fin’s concerned face before it slammed back into me. “DON’T touch me!”
