Chapter 03. A NEW REVELATION. Clary's POV. “Look, I don't understand what you're trying to say.” I said, pacing back and forth in short spans before finally coming to a stop. “What do you mean by they knew? What did they know? And who are we talking about here?” “The red moon only appears once every three months.” he said, looking me in the eyes. “However, a year was enough time for Eric to become the alpha. The previous alpha is dead.” “Alright, but you still aren't making any sense.” I said, shaking my head. “If he is the alpha now, then that's because he was the acting-alpha before I was sent away. So, it is only right that he is the alpha now.” If anything, I didn't know why he was taking too long to talk. I mean, if he had something to say, then why not say it already? I don't want to believe that he travelled or better still, lived in hiding for the past five years only to come here without anything to say. If he didn't have anything to do, then I could just offer him a place to pass the night. However, for someone like me who's got a lot of things to think of, I don't think talking about what happened in the pack is the best way I want to spend my night. “Eric isn't supposed to be the alpha.” he said, shaking his head. “I know it's hard to believe, but he's not the right person to lead the pack.” “Ok, why are you telling me this?” I asked, with a shrug of my shoulder. “If he isn't the right person to lead the pack, then they should find the right person to do so. How's that any of my concern? I'm about to be thrown out of this place by the weekend, I've got a test tomorrow and I haven't even read a thing yet. So, if they want to find the right person to lead the pack, then they should. I mean, they have you or had you. Anyway, it shouldn't be hard.” “You don't seem to understand.” “Because you're making it difficult for me to understand.” I said, my voice almost rising to a scream. “I mean, you've been talking for the past twenty minutes and I still don't have any idea where this conversation is heading to, and you want me to sit here with you. To talk about what exactly? A pack that sent me out here to die? No, I'm sorry. I've got other things to do.” I righted myself from the couch and turned to leave. However, I wasn't heading to my room to sleep, but to read. If anything, I'd been warned not to fail that particular course. And if it happens that I do, then it's over. I'd have to kiss my hopes of graduating with an 'A' goodbye, which I didn't want and wasn't ready to do. “There was a prophecy.” he said, just as I was about to take a step from where I stood. “Eric and the elders know about it. However, they've decided to keep it a secret.” “What prophecy?” I asked, turning to face him with a raised brow. “And why have they chosen to keep it a secret?” “There was a curse placed on the pack centuries ago.” he said, exhaling softly as if it was an information he wasn't meant to disclose. “Alright, I know about it.” I said, angling my body towards him as I offered my attention. “However, isn't that just a mere legend?” “No, it's not.” he said, righting himself from the couch. “We weren't made to live like this, Clary; that curse stops us from transforming on a full moon. However, it's that period of time when we're supposed to tap into our full power.” “Alright.” I said, folding my arms across my chest as I shifted my body weight to one foot. “I still don't understand how this has to do with me.” “The prophecy says that the one who possesses the black blood will break the curse.” he said, his voice soft, yet certain. “However, Eric doesn't have the black blood.” “Then you all should find the whoever has the black blood to break the curse.” I said, seeing no reason why he made it sound like a big deal. “It is not difficult you know? Find whoever has the black blood and let them break the curse. Simple!” “Don't you get it?” he asked, taking a step towards me. “Why do you think I'm here?” “That's exactly what I've been planning to—” The rest of the words died in my throat as a thought struck me like a bolt of lightning. “No. There's no way that's possible.” I said, shaking my head as I blinked my eyes rapidly in confusion. “You don't think I have the black blood, do you?” “Well, there's only one way to know.” he said, with a shrug of his shoulder. “Aren't you curious?” “Look, I know you're desperate to save the pack. But, it doesn't make any sense.” I said, shaking my head. “I think you've got the wrong person.” “Aren't you concerned about your family?” he asked, staring into my eyes as he took another step toward me. “The red moon is the day after tomorrow. Should Eric perform that ritual, then it's going to get us all killed.” “Are you saying that now so I will go back with you?” I asked, narrowing my gaze at the words. “If that's what you're trying to do, then it's not going to be possible. I'm not going back to that pack that threw me out like I meant nothing.” “I think we should first confirm if you have the blood or not.” he said, picking up the knife from the table. “That should be able to convince you that I'm right.” “And what if you're wrong?” I asked, dropping my gaze to the knife in his grip. “Then I'll leave and never return.” he said, with an assuring nod of his head. “You have my word. However, if it turns out that I'm right, then I'll need you to think about returning to the pack.” “Alright then, let's see.” I said, holding out a hand towards him. “Don't say that I didn't tell you.” “Let's see then.” he said, holding my hand. “This is going to hurt.” He didn't have to tell me that it would hurt. All I wanted was for him to get it over with and leave. Meanwhile, as he cut my skin with the blade, I turned my face away. “You can take a look now.” he said, letting go of my hand. I guess he realized that he was wrong after all. I turned and glanced at my hand. However, my skin crawled as I saw a black substance dripping from my hand. “No, this isn't real.” I said, lifting my gaze to him. “What have you done to me?” “I have only proven that you were wrong.” he said, dropping the knife on the table. “I am sure you know the truth now. Think about it.” “There is nothing to think about.” I said, with an edge to my voice. “You may be right, but this doesn't change anything. I'm not returning to that pack.” “Then we all are going to die.” he said, with ice in his voice. “Including you.”
