Lexi scrolled in disbelief. She tried calling one of her biggest sponsors. No answer. Then another. Voicemail.
By noon, three of her events had been canceled.
By four o'clock, all her upcoming corporate bookings had pulled out.
She stood frozen in her office, surrounded by silence.
Maya stepped inside, hesitant. “Someone from the city licensing office came by while you were out... They said there’s going to be a review of your business permit. Something about discrepancies in your financial reports.”
Lexi’s heart dropped. “That doesn’t make sense.”
Maya shook her head helplessly. “I know.”
Lexi didn’t need to ask. She knew.
