Chapter 4 Neither Did I

960 Words
Yolanda's bold challenge easily caused Joseph's expression to darken instantly. Liam and Nott both had their heads bowed, fearing that their breaths might get them unwanted attention. Yolanda, emboldened by a surge of indignation, staggered forward and grabbed Joseph by his tie to pull his closer, her voice sharp and unwavering. "Did you ever stop to consider if I actually desired to marry you? Or were you merely deluded by your wealth into thinking you're irresistible to every woman?" Joseph wrinkled his nose at the pungent scent of alcohol emanating from her breath, a flicker of irritation glinting in his eyes. He quickly grabbed her wrist, his tone biting, "You must be out of your mind." She had willingly left with Harvey, much to his chagrin! Actually, he had hoped she would take the easy way out, yet she displayed a tenacity he hadn't anticipated. When Yolanda walked out of that box with Harvey, regret had already gnawed at Joseph.  Despite their nominal marital ties, the notion of her entanglement with another man repulsed him. "YOU are out of your mind," Yolanda retorted, her hands flailing with drunken abandon. She wanted Joseph to pay for allowing Harvey to take liberties with her. Joseph's face turned livid as he gripped her wrist tighter and dragged her upstairs, disregarding her protests. But Yolanda struggled fiercely against his touch, beating at him repeatedly. "Let go of me. Let go..." The bedroom door flew open with a bang as Joseph pushed her inside. Yolanda stumbled and fell, her knee hitting the floor hard. "Ouch..." she groaned, clutching her knee. That pained cry made Joseph hesitate for a moment. That moan... Memories of a similar cry echoed in his mind. The woman just sounded that way beneath him at that beautiful night. Her voice... Was it similar to Wilma's? "Joseph Sutton!" Yolanda looked up at him, her eyes brimming with hatred. He was not only cruel but violent! When Joseph met her glare, his thoughts finally snapped back to the present. Approaching her, Joseph narrowed his eyes. "You're not drunk?" She was indeed drunk, yet her mind remained clear. Attempting to rise, she faltered, grasping at nearby support instinctively. Despite the room not being cold, a shiver ran through her. Slowly looking up, she met his deep but cold gaze. Then, she realized her hands were clutching his trousers. If not for his belt, she might have pulled it down in her scramble. Even so, his usually pristine suit was now disheveled because of her. Yolanda quickly released her grip. Yet, beneath his tailored trousers, a suggestive bulge hinted at the effect of their proximity. She looked away hastily. "I... I didn't mean to." Joseph let out a cold sneer. "Is that so?" "Of course." It took her a few seconds to figure out what he was implying, so she glared at Joseph and retorted defensively, "What are you implying?" Was he suggesting that she harbored any physical attraction towards him? Yolanda found him overly self-assured. Although he was physically appealing, she was far from interested! "Don't you know what kind of a person you are?" he shot back sarcastically, which hit her nerve. He knew about the contraceptive pills, which meant he knew she had... Recalling that night, Yolanda shivered slightly. Yet she fought to maintain her composure, despite her wish to flee so that she wouldn't be possibly insulted or exposed for that disgraceful thing. "Lost for words? Any man will do, huh?" Joseph pinned her against the wall, his gaze sharp and unforgiving. "Explain how you manage to refuse a divorce while apparently cheating behind my back?" His voice was laden with venom. His wife spent their wedding night with another man. It was perhaps the most humiliating thing he could imagine. Yolanda's struggle caused a couple of buttons on her blouse to snap off, clattering to the floor. Joseph's eyes inadvertently traced down her delicate collarbone to the exposed black lace of her bra, hinting at more beneath there... Struggling for air, she let out a soft murmur, "Umm..." A stray lock of hair fell beside her ear, fluttering with her breaths, adding an unintended allure... Realizing he had been staring for too long, Joseph quickly diverted his eyes. His throat tightened involuntarily, a deep frown creasing his brow. The notion of being drawn to such a libertine woman repulsed him, igniting a furious internal struggle. In burst of anger directed as much at himself as at her, he threw her onto the bed, wrestling with the unsettling thoughts swirling in his mind. How could he entertain such thoughts about such a disreputable woman? Was he losing his mind? He stormed downstairs without looking back. Liam, seeing his distress, quickly approached. "Mr. Sutton?" Ignoring Liam's attempt to engage, Joseph headed straight for the door. Worried, Liam jogged to keep up. Once inside the car, Liam drove off, casting cautious glances at Joseph through the rearview mirror. He couldn't help wondering what had provoked such fury in his boss. Back at the estate, Yolanda lay gasping on the bed, clutching her chest. For a moment, she had thought Joseph might strangle her. Now, as she sobered up, she was still drowned in lingering fear. The alcohol churned uneasily in her stomach, rising up in a wave of nausea that propelled her to the bathroom. After emptying her stomach and rinsing her mouth, she finally felt much better. Exhaustion soon washed over her, causing her to collapse back onto the bed, gradually closing her eyes, succumbing to a deep, uneasy sleep. The next day, as soon as Joseph walked into his office at Sutton Group, his secretary, Taylor approached him. "Mr. Sutton, Mr. Graham called. He's inquiring about the woman from last night."
