Confusion settled over everyone present.
Was it mere chance that both Yolanda and Joseph had urgent matters to attend to?
Wilma, sensing that something was off, couldn't shake off her earlier suspicions. She couldn't help wondering if there was more to the situation now.
Her eyes flicked back and forth between Joseph and Yolanda, searching for clues.
"What's the urgent matter, Yolanda?" she probed gently.
Yolanda really wished she could reveal that she was Joseph's wife.
Then, Joseph would have to painstakingly explain everything to Wilma.
But Yolanda couldn't afford to provoke him.
Losing her job was not an option, especially after missing out on a transfer to the Royal Hospital.
She shrunk back, meek as a mouse. "My grandfather needed me for something urgent, and I couldn't just ignore it. It seems Mr. Sutton is in a similar situation. Quite the coincidence, isn't it?"
She forced a laugh, trying to deflect the conversation, but Joseph didn't share her thoughts.
Instead, he stirred things up. "Funny how both our grandfathers decided to call us at the same time. May I ask where your grandfather lives? Maybe I can drop you off."
Yolanda's smile nearly froze.
If not for her tremendous self-control, she would have grabbed a glass from the table and hurled it at his face!
"That's so funny, Mr. Sutton. How could we possibly be going the same way? I really must be going now. Mr. Sutton, please excuse me," she said and then quickly made her exit.
Wilma looked uneasy, her gaze lingering on Joseph with concern. "Do you know Yolanda?"
Joseph kept his expression cool, as if he hadn't been part of the previous conversation. "I don't know her."
He then rose from his seat.
Wilma exhaled in relief. She had invited Joseph specifically to show off their relationship to everyone at the hospital, and despite the awkwardness, his presence had served its purpose.
"Let me walk you out," Wilma offered quickly, fearing any potential contact between him and Yolanda.
After all, it was Yolanda who was with Joseph that night in the hospital, which made her a threat.
Outside the hotel, Joseph scanned the entrance but found no sign of Yolanda.
Eager to put distance between herself and Joseph, Yolanda wouldn't have waited but taken a taxi as soon as she got out.
Liam opened the car door for Joseph, saying, "Mr. Sutton, please."
Joseph gave Wilma a glance, saying, "You should go back to your party." He then got in the car and drove away.
Wilma watched the car disappear, feeling a hint of regret.
If only she had pushed for marriage back then, she might have already been Joseph's wife.
When would she manage to win Joseph's heart?
And when would he recognize her worth and fall for her?
Yolanda soon arrived at Sutton Manor, where Jordan led her to Joseph's room.
As he was leaving, he mentioned, "This used to be Joseph's room. It's been remodeled once since then."
The style of Joseph's estate was notably different here. The decorations in this room was deeper, dominated by blacks and grays with no hint of warmth, its cool style making people feel stark.
As Yolanda scanned the room, her attention was drawn to a delicate box on a shelf. It looked like something a girl would cherish, strikingly out of place amid the room's austere style.
Why was there a girl's item in Joseph's room?
Could it be Wilma's?
Just as she was about to examine it...
"What are you doing?!" a harsh voice came from behind her.
Startled by the sudden shout, Yolanda spun around, accidentally knocking the box off the shelf. It clattered to the floor with a loud thud!
Joseph glared at her, his anger making him seem almost monstrous.
"I... I didn't mean to..." she stammered.
She quickly crouched to pick it up. But as her fingers neared the box, her wrist was gripped tightly.
Joseph's eyes blazed with fury as he shouted, "Get your dirty hands off!"
Her view upward was slightly obscured by her messy hair, but she managed to see Joseph carefully picked up the box. Even through his actions, she could sense how much he cherished the item.
As Joseph carefully inspected the contents of the box, relief washed over him.
Thankfully, the box had made it undamaged.
But the thought of it nearly being smashed by her rekindled his rage.
He shot her a venomous look, his eyes seething. "Yolanda, do you have a death wish or something?!"
Struggling to her feet, Yolanda replied, "It was an accident. I'm sorry..."
She could tell the item was precious to Joseph.
Regardless, she had caused it to fall, which made her feel sincerely sorry.
"Sorry? You think I'd accept that?" he retorted with scorn and disbelief, believing Yolanda was too shameless and overbold.
Advancing towards her, he made a dominating and oppressive presence, making Yolanda's heart race. She instinctively backed up until hitting the wall with a thud. Out of fear, she begged, "Don't... don't come any closer..."
Ignoring her plea, Joseph grasped her jaw forcefully.
Her eyes widened in fear as she confronted with this intimidating side of Joseph.
He leaned in close, his presence overwhelmingly assertive, enveloping her. She tried to resist but was powerless, feeling his breath on her ear. "You better keep your distance. This item is priceless to me, and you're not even qualified to touch it!??
With deliberate care, Joseph placed the box back in its original spot next to a photo frame, which was a family portrait of him and his parents.
Yolanda's gaze inadvertently shifted towards it, pausing for a brief moment.
The contents of the box seemed vaguely familiar.
