Chapter 8 Joseph's Revenge

613 Words
"Why did you ask, Terry?" Yolanda suddenly had a bad feeling. "You should know what being blacklisted means..." Terry hesitated. "I'm afraid your career as a doctor might be over. No hospital will dare hire you." Yolanda was shocked by this sudden news. Blacklisted? Wouldn't that mean she could no longer work as a doctor? Trembling, she pleaded desperately, "Terry, I love this job, and I can't afford to lose it." "If you want to keep your job, you'll have to apologize to Joseph. If you've offended him, just take a step back. It's better than ruining your career," Terry advised. "I..." Yolanda managed a bitter smile, tears welling up. The prejudice Joseph held against her could never be resolved by a simple apology. Yolanda knew very well that he treated her this way because she almost broke his precious item last night; besides, he hated her for being his wife. This was probably his way of retaliating for last night's incident and a ploy to pressure her into asking for a divorce. "Only you can save yourself," Terry said. Returning to her department, Yolanda felt crushed by despair, as if her very soul had withered within her. Engaging Joseph might prove fruitless , considering his ultimate goal was to have her file for divorce. However, Yolanda had already signed an agreement with Lawrence. As a result, agreeing with Joseph now would make her break her words. A wave of nausea swept over her momentarily, but it still took her a while to ease herself. Soon, she turned on her computer, attempting to seek employment at other hospitals, only to be met with rejection after rejection. At that moment, she truly understood the power of being blacklisted. But she couldn't do without a job. With few friends to turn to, her only option was her senior, Molan Denvers. Molan had once pursued her, so Yolanda had not contacted him for a long time. With her desperation outweighing her hesitation, she ended up dialing Molan's number. The call connected quickly. "Yolanda?" Molan's voice came through. "Do you have time? I'd like to meet with you." She managed to suppress the hoarseness in her voice, trying to sound normal. Molan immediately agreed, "Sure." Then, they decided to meet at a restaurant. Yolanda got herself together and left the hospital. Seeing her troubled expression, Molan asked, "Is something wrong?" Struggling to articulate her predicament, Yolanda explained, "I'm about to lose my job." Considering Molan's potential acquaintance Joseph, Yolanda hesitated before uttered the name, "Joseph Sutton." "What did you do to offend him? Was it because of Wilma?" Molan couldn't think of any other reason. Since Joseph hadn't kept their marriage a secret without a wedding, only their families and a few close friends knew about their bond. Most people remained uninformed, including Molan, which only complicated the whole thing. Yolanda knew she would eventually divorce Joseph, so she had never mentioned their relationship to Molan, either. Ignorant to this all, Molan could only guess it might be related to Wilma. Without waiting for Yolanda to respond, he continued, "It's actually the first time I've seen Joseph care so much about a woman. But I'd say he must be stupid to fancy Wilma. Don't worry. I'll put in a good word for you.?? Yolanda wanted to reveal her relationship with Joseph but was unsure how to begin. In the end, she decided not to mention it. "Thank you." ***** Meanwhile, at the Sutton Group, Joseph entered his office after a meeting, Liam came over with a grave expression. "Mr. Sutton, I just saw Mrs. Sutton dining with another man." "Who?!" Joseph snapped, his voice filled with anger.
