29. The Two Sparrows

Eliza sat in Alejandro’s SUV, bouncing and swaying, as they made their way on the narrow mountain road. She worked extra hard to keep her eyes off the edge of the pebbled pathway. The single car width roadway plummeted down to a rocky valley and with each mile they climbed on that peak, the more dizzying the fall looked from the window. She imagined that if she opened the car door, she would find a drop filled with jutting rocks and death. She decided to look down at her phone in her hands and tried not to think about the danger that awaited them if Alejandro miscalculated their drive.
