Introduction

Introduction I wanted to write a brief introduction for the reader due to my decision to start the first chapter at the beginning of a dialogue between the main character, Emerald, and her friend and ex-coworker, Eric. As it so eloquently starts with some colorful language about them debating the benefits of competition, Emerald and Eric are sitting on a bench in a park engaging in some deep discussions. You will see that Emerald loves to think and talk about some major issues and is not afraid to be honest and tell others what she thinks about things. Nevertheless, she still tries to listen, question what she knows, and change her views when given new and compelling evidence that proves what she thinks is wrong. Throughout this book, I make sure to tell you more and more about this wonderful lady and her thoughts on so many different topics, especially societal issues and other important and controversial topics. Emerald is a 45-years-old lesbian, an environmentalist, a progressive, a s****l assault survivor, a recovering d**g addict, and a college dropout. She has been outcasted and neglected by her parents and family. She has been a vegan for over 20 years but was still very unhealthy for most of her life as a vegan. Over the past few years, she finally started getting her s**t together, especially after she got arrested and almost lost the love of her life. She is very spiritual, but she is also anti-religion. She likes to discuss and debate provocative and controversial topics with herself, her lover, friends, and co-workers. Emerald is also a singer-songwriter and loves to play guitar. She lives with her long-term girlfriend in an apartment in an undisclosed city and undisclosed time where she works part-time at a bookstore owned by a gay couple. After getting sober, she started questioning what she was told and taught to believe. Her struggles and conflicts relate to breaking through her denial and trying to figure out what is true or real and what is a lie. Emerald’s goal is to affirm her suspicion that we have been lied to and that there is another option to consumerism and working full-time. She wants to live a happier, healthier, freer, and more spiritual life.
