After I sent "I can't," I left the message thread open on my screen for the rest of the night.
She never replied.
Even so, I kept watching her status light change over and over. It flicked from offline to online, then back again, then online once more.
She was hesitating.
The realization made a brief smile cross my face before I could stop it.
A little while later, Cameron pushed open the study door. The look on his face when he found me staring at the screen with that expression was almost painful.
