Roxie POV
The room suddenly turns cold. His blank face made it impossible to read his expression.
"What is he thinking? I would give anything to read his thoughts.
He finally made a move; he took a deep breath and sighed. He was annoyed and angry.
"Is this a joke or something, or a prank? Because I am really not in the mood for this kind of joke, Miss White?"
His agitated tone revealed how angry he was, and if I dare say something silly, I will probably end up in a coffin.
"I am not joking, as I said, I am Roxie White, and..." he cuts my words and spoke.
"I remember you now, Roxie White, right?"
My heart skipped a beat when he said he remembered me. For as long as I could remember, he never paid attention to me while in school.
I was a little excited to know he remembered me, but my beautiful thoughts went down the drain with what followed next.
"The nerdy weirdo, right? Surprisingly, I used to think it was just a rumor, but I guess it wasn't seeing how you are standing before me sprouting such nonsense."
His words cut so deep I felt my heart bleeding.
"You don't need to be rude, Evans; I meant every word I said."
"Every word, including the marriage, hah, if this is not a joke then what is this?"
" I know is may seem as out of place, but I do mean no harm, just to help nothing more. I heard your family was in a bit of…"
Unfortunately, I touched on something I shouldn't have. His demeanor suggested, he wasn't pleased. It showed his disgust and annoyance.
"So, you have done your homework," he stated in a low tone.
For some perverted reason, I found his calm and low tone sexy enough to make me thirst for him.
He is tall and handsome and in his early thirties, but he looks more mature than other men in their thirties.
He unfolded his arms and with both of his hands gripping onto the edges of the round table behind him.
"I don't want you to misunderstand; I am offering this because I want to help, and I wish you can trust m…"
He suddenly lets go of the table and paces back and forth, his face contorted with anger. He runs his fingers through his perfectly styled hair, annoyance evident in his piercing blue eyes.
"I can't believe what I am hearing. You barged into my firm, dragged me into an office, and presented me with an unreasonable offer, expecting me to believe you are sane."
I tried to draw closer to him, but he slammed his fist on the table, signaling me not to make any silly movement.
"Listen up, whether my family's financial status is in a shithole or not, I will never marry you nor find you worthy to be my wife. You should know your place and not stick your nose into other people's business.
The sight of you makes me sick in the stomach, so before I lose it, get out of my sight now."
I couldn't believe how sour his words could be. I never knew this side of him. Back then, I saw him as a sweet, kind, and respectful boy who would never hurt a soul.
So how could he be rude to me now? All I want is to help the man I love, even if he doesn't love me back.
I couldn't control my emotions and suddenly grabbed him by the collar and pulled him closer to me. His face almost touching mine.
His blue eyes still cold as before.
"Let go of me,"he ordered. I quickly snap out of it and let go. He turned to the door but I noticed he hadn't left the room.
Miss Roxie!
"What now? Is his insults not enough? Does he have more to say?" I turned to face him.
He is standing next to the door holding the doorknob. He stared at me then back at the door, thrice, I still didn't get what he was trying to say.
He takes a deep breath, attempting to compose himself, but his anger is palpable.
Gritting his teeth he said "You locked the door."
"Oh," I exclaimed and unlocked the door. He left without a word.
"Hah! He sure hates me now, but that won't stop me. I will do anything to be by your side, Evans."
I said to myself as I exited the room. "Things are going to be hectic now."
A few days passed after his rejection. I couldn't sleep for days just thinking about what my next move would be.
I left my father's house ten years ago after an incident happened. I decided to rebuild my life at my own expense.
It took time and hard work to get to where I am now. Big-time fashion designer, having my own brand and company, I had accomplished so many things in the span of ten years. Five years of bad struggling on my own and another five years of being the best at what I love doing.
I lost touch with my dad after I left home; he never picked my calls and neither do I. He has his own family, and I was less of a burden now since I wasn't with him.
I had only one friend who had my back since college. We actually met on a bad note, but for some reason, we became friends after she offered to be in a project with me.
She is one of the reasons why I had the confidence to propose to Evans. She would probably be disappointed if I tell her I was rejected.
I live in my new house, which I purchased not long ago. It's a modern house with a swimming pool and a mini bar.
Sitting at the poolside thinking of what I could do to get his attention.
"Let's just call Olivia; I am sure she would have some information I can use to plan my next move"…
I picked up my phone and dialed her number.
"Hello."
"Oli."
"Rox, what's up."
I hesitated for a moment, but I knew I had to tell her.
"I failed, Oli. He thinks it's a prank and that I am playing tricks on him."
"Hahahaha," she laughed wholeheartedly; I couldn't help but laugh along.
"I am almost tearing up. Did you really think it would work? You suddenly appear in front of a guy who is likely not to remember you or probably doesn't know you at all."
I interrupted. "He does remember me but not in the way I wanted him to remember me."
"Well, it doesn't matter. It's just a first try, so it was bound to fail anyway. So, what are you going to do about it now."
"I don't know; I thought with the information you got me, I could use it as leverage to make him mine, but it didn't work. I think it made it worse, and I do understand him, though. Who would want to be with someone who uses his weakness against him"?
"So dramatic, Rox. Listen up; there is nothing wrong with that. You love him, and that is what matters the most."
"Yeah, you are right."
"Ok, let me see; why don't you reach out to his family, I mean his parents, probably they can help"?
"Do you really think so?"
"Well, that is the only option you have."
"Hmmm alright I will give it a shot."
“Good, oh, I have to hang up now; someone is at my door."
"Ok, thanks for the advice, Oli; you are a lifesaver."
"You bet, bye."
After Olivia hung up, she quickly went to the door to see who was behind her door.
"Who is it?"
No response came back; surprisingly, she smiled, for she knew who was behind her door.
She slowly opened the door, and a tall and handsome man was standing in front of her.
"Evans, did you miss me?"
