“Will you stand by me when all else fails?” Georgina asked.
I looked up from my Algebra homework and then at her, “What are you on about now, Georgie?”
She shrugged, “I’m just curious.”
It wasn’t curiosity that was evident on her face, it was fear, “What’s wrong, George? You didn’t come here to help me with homework, so what’s wrong?”
She closed her eyes, “I have a brother.”
I stared at her, “Your Mom’s pregnant?”
She shook her head, “No, that’s not it. My Dad, he has a son from another woman. They told me earlier, actually, I overheard it when they were fighting because the guy- his son- was looking for his father and he accidentally met my Mom.”
“I, I uh, I don’t know what to say, to be honest.”
She looked at me sadly, “I don’t know either.”
