Ka Martin’s HeavenWhen Ka Martin opened his eyes, he noticed Ester, his fifteen-year-old and youngest daughter sleeping, face down on one side of the mat. The girl had dozed off while fanning the sick farmer, to drive away the noontime heat. A faint smile briefly crossed the farmer’s face, already past the prime of life. He stretched his arm hoping to push away his daughter’s long hair loosely spread out, but the effort was not enough. The old man ruefuly shook his head.
