Chapter 9Sean’s jaw clenched and he quickly pulled Lisa behind him. “Stay behind me.” His hand went to his side, where he sometimes carried a gun when working a job. But he’d left his piece back in Colorado. They heard the screen door swing open. Footsteps thundered down the hallway. Sean’s eyes searched for something he could use as a weapon. The closest object was the vase lying on the table. He lunged for it, grabbing it by its neck. Tall grass fell from its lip. When a figure dressed in black with a shiny handgun lurched out from behind the wall, Sean didn’t waste a second. He snarled and threw the vase like a battle axe directly at the intruder’s head.
