Chapter 22The terrain was rough and the night made things harder. Lisa led the way, hiking Hannah up in her arms as she shuffled around the inside of the next boulder. Sean was close behind, keeping his head low, with rifle in hand as they carefully moved from one large mass to another. Both used their hands for balance as they proceeded along the ridge. When they reached a ten-foot gap in the rocks, Sean crossed in front of Lisa, ducking and peering around the boulder on the end, back at the Bronco. Its lights were still on. The vehicle, now in the distance, didn’t appear to have moved. Sean must have punctured the tire. The men were likely somewhere along the hill, or perhaps at the bottom of it moving parallel to them. At some point, the hill and its steepening base would converge, but
