Chapter 24His rifle was empty, lying on the dirt beside him. The only rounds left were in the pistol he’d taken from Hector, a Glock 29 with six shots remaining. He had it pinned to a large rock about eighty feet down the hill. Montoya had taken cover behind it during their last exchange, his position exposed by the approaching headlights. Montoya hadn’t switched back to his rifle yet, still using a small arm, but it was only a matter of time before he whipped it back out. Music continued to blast from the Bronco as it reached the base of the hill directly below them. The racket was originally meant as a distraction, and was now probably intended to intimidate, but unbeknownst to the men, it was actually serving to Sean’s benefit—or more precisely that of Lisa and Hannah.
