Gerald's POV
I parted my eyes slowly, the loud ringing of my phone stinging my ears. I groaned, stretching towards the table as I fumbled around in search of the damned noise maker.
I pulled it towards my ear, sliding towards the answer function. My voice a low growl, “What is it?”
“Boss! Thank goodness you finally answered. There's a huge problem at the company. One of our branches around the city college was burned down last night!” My assistant, Henry Moore's urgent voice echoed from the other end of the line.
I sluggishly sat up, throwing my legs out of bed. “It can't be an accident. Investigate and get me the bastard that dared to sabotage my company,” I ordered, ending the call.
I turned to my side, my eyes bulging at the empty sight. “Where is she?”
I wrapped the sheets around my waist, my eyes catching a glimpse of a red spot on the bed. She was a virgin? I strode towards the shower, hoping to find her there but was met with disappointment. Empty.
Did she really run away?
A sly smile curved my lips as I remembered her soft moans from the night before. She's cute.
After a shower, I threw on my clothes as the hotel room door swung open.
“Boss, the helicopter’s on the…” Henry stammered, turning his back to me. “I'm sorry, boss. I didn't know you weren't fully dressed.”
I let out a sharp scoff. “You just enjoy abusing me, don't you?”
My eyes flickered as I caught sight of it. An ID card hidden between the sheets. I grabbed it, wiping it off as I stared at the girl's picture. “Nora Thompson.”
“Is everything alright boss?” Henry asked, raising a brow.
I threw my jacket across my shoulder, walking past Henry. “Get me every information you can about Nora Thompson.”
“What happened, sir?” He asked, walking beside me as the security team enclosed us. “Is she a threat?”
I scoffed, a sly smile across my lips as we reached the roof top. “That's my fiancé.”
The door to the roof top swung open as Henry's lips fell to the floor. He stared at me blankly, words unable to form.
The security team stood on each side as I walked towards the helicopter, sun glasses over my eyes. “You like being abandoned?” I yelled, tilting my head slightly towards my assistant.
“Coming sir!” He squealed, striding towards the helicopter quickly.
“Ready for take off,” the pilot announced, hitting some buttons as the helicopter rose into the air.
I pulled out the abandoned school ID, my thumb brushing over the picture. “Think you can just take advantage of me and run? You can burrow into sewers. You can change your name. You can bleed yourself dry hoping I’ll lose the scent.”
A slow grin crept across my lips.
“But this city breathes when I command it. Every rat, every corpse, every whisper belongs to me.”
I lifted the ID to my mouth, kissing the printed image. “And when I find you, I won’t just take you back. I’ll unmake you and rebuild you into what you were always meant to be… My obedient little corpse.”
Handing me his phone, Henry's eyes lit up enthusiastically. “Boss, we've found your mystery girl.”
I stared at her information, a broad smile curling my lips. “Land on the company and get the cars ready. We're going to buy a college.”
……………….
Henry’s voice filled the silence as the car rode through the city. “Sir, there’s a complication.”
I didn’t look up. “Speak.”
“The college isn’t privately owned,” he said. “It’s a state institution. Under the New York education board. Buying it outright would mean government negotiations, approvals, oversight…”
“A nuisance,” I cut in, calmly.
“Yes,” he agreed, quickly. “And frankly? A waste of money.”
I turned slightly, eyes darkening as my thumb grazed the picture on the ID card softly. “Explain.”
Henry swallowed. “You don’t need a college to get a girl. With your status, your wealth, and influence sir, no woman would reject you. If you want her, propose. Publicly, even. She’ll fold.”
I let out a soft chuckle. “You think this is about acceptance?”
Henry hesitated, pouting his lips. “Isn’t it?”
I sighed, turning my head towards him as my eyes fixated on his. “Love is fragile. Consent is temporary. Affection can change.” I leaned in, voice colder. “But ownership? That lasts.”
Henry stiffened.
“She ran,” I continued calmly. “She didn’t choose me. She just walked away, untouched.”
I shifted my eyes towards the road as the college gates came into view.
“I don’t want her gratitude,” I said, my voice a low whisper. “I don’t want her love. I want her options erased.”
Henry let out a sharp gasp. “Sir… that’s…”
“Power,” I cut in. “Pure, clean power.”
I turned back to the window. “If the state owns the college, then I won’t buy the college.”
Henry exhaled in relief.
“I’ll buy the government,” I added. “The approvals. The appointments. The permissions.” I glanced at him. “And then I’ll insert myself into her world so deeply she won’t be able to tell where I end, and where safety begins.”
Henry’s voice shook. “You’re talking about monitoring her.”
“Guiding her,” I corrected. “Her classes, her schedule, her grades, her conflicts, her fears. Every breakdown, documented. Every weakness catalogued until she stumbles. And when she does? She’ll be isolated. Misunderstood. Pressured.” I smiled faintly. “And every time the world turns its back on her, I’ll be there.”
Henry shook his head. “You’d rather break her than win her?”
I finally looked at him fully. “Winning implies she had a choice. I'm not one to give choices. I erase them. And when she finally looks at me?” I chuckled, “She won’t see a monster. She’ll only see the person that never left. I won't chase her. I won't beg her.” I adjusted my cufflinks. “And when she clings to me,” I murmured, “She’ll call it love. She won't think she chose me. She'll believe I saved her.”
The door swung open as a security guard announced, “We're here, sir.”
I stepped out of the car, my leg grazing against the hard ground as I took in a deep breath.
“Everything's ready sir,” Henry said, pausing beside me.
My lips curled into a grin as I pulled out the ID card. My fingers brushed against its surface gently, my voice a dark whisper. “My little obedient corpse. Daddy's here.”
