Sophia POV
Woke up early the next morning, feeling positive and determined. I took a shower, got dressed and headed downstairs. I doubt anyone will be awake by this time, I got used to waking up early since I was working at the restaurant, and the environment is still foreign to me, so sleeping soundly still seems golden at the moment.
I checked on Liam first, his room was right next to mine, he was still sleeping. I headed downstairs, I found a woman in the kitchen, she must be the cook I thought, she turned and looked at me, smiling warmly, I smiled back at her.
“Someone is an early bird” she said with a little smile, I moved closer to her, getting a motherly vibe from her and the fact that she could tell when I stepped into the kitchen made me remember my mother. My mother will always say, a good mother is always aware of her environment to know if there is danger lurking somewhere or not.
“It’s still a new environment for me, so I couldn’t sleep much. Besides, I'm trying to get used to the mansion as soon as possible” I explained.
She smiled at me while peeling the onion, “You’re putting an effort, that’s great. You can ask me anything, I’ve been here for a while, and known the family for over a decade.” She said warmly.
“That’s amazing, I’ll need all the help that I can get, thank you ma’am” I said.
“It’s okay …”
“My bad, Sophia, My name is Sophia ma’am” I told her
“Sophia, it suits you.” she said.
“Thank you ma”
“By the way, is there any information you can provide me with about Liam? Knowing him makes it easy to take care of him, he seems different from a normal child his age” I asked curiously.
She washed her hands and sigh, giving me her full attention
“He is a good kid, even with the absence of a mother figure, he is quite respectful. He wasn’t always a distant and cold child as he is presently, he is just a poor child that wants to feel his parents presence “ she said pitifully.
Still a bit confused, “what do you mean his parents' presence, they are basically living with him, and what do you mean lack of a mother figure? Mrs Anderson is his mother, no?” I asked
“I’m sure you’ll understand day by day, they are both living with him but Michael is always busy with work, even though he still tends to take a break at times whenever Liam needs him. Elena? She’s more busy than her husband who owns a company.”
“Busy doing what?” I asked, but before she could explain, we heard a footstep, Michael walked in looking at the two of us, he obviously just got back from working out and was sweaty
“Good morning Missy”
“Good morning Ms Mandela”
He greeted the both of us heading to the chiller.
“Good morning Dear”
“Good morning sir” we both responded.
He took out a bottle of water, his muscle was flexing while opening the cover of the bottle, I was almost drooling, just the way sweat was dripping out of his body, touching him everywhere, I rubbed my laps together trying to get a friction in between my legs due to the sudden ache. The action didn’t go unnoticed by him, he gulped hard, the way he was looking at me made me uncomfortable down there. I cleared my throat, and walked away hastily.
What came over me? I’ve never reacted that way towards any man before. I took a moment to erase all my weird thoughts, and headed straight to Liam’s room, he was sitting on his bed, rubbing his eyes, he just woke up I thought.
“Good morning baby” I greeted him cheerfully
He turned and looked at me strangely as if I’m an alien, with no reply, he shook his head and stood up heading into the bathroom without saying anything. I chuckled gently and followed him into the bathroom.
I stood at the entrance giving him space, but also there for him if he needed help. He climbed a stool to reach the sink, washing his teeth. That was when I realized that this 4yr old boy has had to grow up on his own, at his age, he is supposed to be taken care of, but he is doing it on his own, which is quite sad.
But in other not to overwhelm him, instead of helping him on the first day, I chose to praise him.
“Liam? You can brush your teeth yourself?” I said in a dramatic way.
He looked at me strangely, no reply again.
“How old are you again? 10?” I added.
“I’m 4yrs old dummy” he said finally. I smiled silently.
“4yrs? Yet, you’re acting my age.” I said. He shook his head and didn't reply but I won't give up on him. I know he needs me.
“I’ll be waiting for you for breakfast downstairs before we head to school” I said to him. I got no reply again, so I stepped out.
I picked an outfit for him before going downstairs. When I got there, Mrs George was just setting the table but I noticed something.
“Why is it food for 2 people alone that is served? It’s a family of 3, isn’t it? I asked her curiously.
“The meal served is for you and Liam, Mrs Anderson is not around, and Mr Anderson doesn’t eat breakfast before leaving for work. In general everyone eats differently, if you are not here, it’d be only Liam having breakfast.” She said
This family is strange. I was about to sit down, to wait for Liam when Mr Anderson came out all dressed in suit, heading to work I guess.
“When Liam is ready, his driver is waiting to take him to school.” He said
“Alone?” I asked. At this point, I won’t even be surprised if the poor boy has been going to school all alone.
He looked at me impatiently as if to ask me, what my point is, I was looking at him squarely too. He faced me properly and said
“And?”
“Oh really? Understood sir” I told him with an attitude looking away and he left too.
Liam came downstairs eventually fully dressed and ready for school, but I noticed he was not wearing the outfit I picked for him, but I wasn’t angry, I understood the fact that he wasn’t used to it and was trying to protest.
I sat down with him on the dining table, eating together. I noticed he was stealing glances at me, but I didn’t look up. After eating, he stood up, carrying his bag, heading outside. I stood up as well, carrying my side bag, following him. He entered the car, and looked at me when he noticed I’m also in the car.
“Don’t look at me like that, we are going together, I’ll be following you to school everyday from now on” I said in a no nonsense tone. Surprisingly, he didn’t argue with me, he rested his back.
I thanked the driver when we got back home after dropping off Liam at school and told him to call me when he is going to pick him up. As I was entering the house, I met Mrs George on the way, she was looking at me strangely.
“What?” I asked her.
“I’m glad you’re here, Liam is lucky to have you” she said.
I smiled at her and went inside.
