Michael’s POV
Presently at the office, going through my emails, but I’ve been on the same email for the past 1hr since I got to the office. I know I’m distracted but I can’t tell why. Tried to flashback to past events that happened at home since I opened the door to Liam’s Nanny, I was definitely taken aback to see someone from another continent coming in as a nanny, but I kept my mind open, especially since Elena could barely take care of her own kid, just because the cook didn’t come in the other day, to fix a good meal for her son was an issue. Yet she had the gut to complain about where the nanny came from and her skin color.
I thought about the conversation we had earlier,
“Michael, where the hell did you find that witch?” She said immediately we entered the room.
“What do you mean a witch? Don’t be so condescending Elena, she looks human to me, and pretty decent.” And drop dead gorgeous, I thought.
“Besides which nanny have we got for Liam that he has ever said more than a word to let alone a compliment?” I reasoned
“I don’t care, I don’t want her here Michael, she’s oozing a bad vibe, can’t you see that?” She said, and I can see a tantrum coming already.
“Elena please be rational, she’s not here to take care of you, if she also leaves, then know that you’ll be taking care of Liam which was your responsibility to begin with including taking him to school too, and I’m not even joking.” I said and left.
My door flew open, I didn’t need to lift my head up before I knew who it was. It’s my idiotic excuse of a friend.
“Giovanni, how many times would I teach you the manners of knocking you bastard” I complained for the nth time.
He walked in dramatically, sat down, I threw a pen at him, and he burst out laughing.
“Where is the fun in knocking on my best friend’s door before entering? Besides it’s not as if you have anything fun going on in your life that you need to be discreet about anyway” he said laughing hard about his own joke, while I looked at him blankly.
“i***t, what are you doing in my office at this time of the day? Are lawyers now idle these days?” I said while I was reading a file.
“I’m not idle, I just know when to relax and have fun unlike someone, and toying with you is my favorite pastime.” I shake my head at his childish antics.
“So what’s new buddy? You finally found a nanny for Liam?” He asked curiously.
“Oh yes I did, the agency sent someone new, I asked for a young lady for a change, maybe it’ll do Liam some good, and I’m feeling positive about her. Liam even complimented her, I was taken aback.” I said, still amazed.
“Liam? Complimented his nanny? That’s new, is she that beautiful?” He asked.
My mind said “she’s not only beautiful, she’s gorgeous” but my mouth said “Well, she’s decent, an African.”
“Rate her on a scale of 1-10 for me” he said sitting upright.
The idea of rating her for him doesn’t sit well with me in some ways, it felt like a disrespect to her and I didn’t like it. I don’t know why, I just do not like it, so I decided to lie,
“Well, I can’t rate her because I obviously didn’t check her out enough to find out” I said, partially telling the truth.
I actually didn’t check her out, I didn’t need to, immediately I saw her, I just noticed everything about her. The way she plays with her finger and bites her lips when she’s nervous, the way her eyes shone differently when Liam complimented her, how she spoke softly, her thick hair, her wonderful curves and her cute dimple.
“Why would you do that?? Liam is a better friend than you are, what do you mean you didn’t check her out?” He exclaimed dramatically as if the world was going to an end. I looked at him pointedly at his question.
“Ohhh, you’re a married man” he clapped his hands as if he had just discovered a way to diffuse a bomb.
Signing all necessary documents, “Thank you for stating the obvious, now can you get out of my office? Not all of us are jobless”
“Geez, coming from someone that is practically single in his marriage, all you can do is work your boring ass off anyway.” He retorted.
I stood up, ready to reset his brain, but he ran out of my office. I went back to my seat, and resumed work. I decided to close early and went home.
There was nothing out of place. This mansion was my first project, and it was dedicated to Elena on our first wedding anniversary. I created a house based on her taste and expectations expecting a home in return, but it never happened. All she does is go shopping, go to the spa, or go for a girls trip, she knows absolutely nothing about her own child, she is neither fulfilling her motherly duties nor fulfilling her wifely duties.
I can hear some hushed voices somewhere. I followed the voice curiously, it led me to one of the guest rooms we reserve for the Nannies we’ve employed. I tried to listen in, I noticed Sophia was on the phone with someone.
“Auntie, I’m sorry I couldn’t call you earlier, I’m just settling in now” she said with her soft spoken voice, I can’t hear what the other person was saying on the other side, but I can tell she’s talking to her relative.
“Yes Auntie, I was employed and I’ll be starting officially tomorrow.” She announced happily.
“Thank God Auntie, because if I wasn’t employed, I don’t know where I would have started, given that I don’t even know anyone here in Alabama” she heaved a sigh.
“Oh no, I can tell he’s not a spoilt boy, he probably just needs to be heard or something, whatever is missing in him, I hope I can give it to him, and hope we can find solace in each other.” She said thoughtfully.
I left to go to my room and it was empty, Elena was definitely out again as usual. I undressed thinking, “in whom can I find solace, God.”
