The Introduction

Sophia POV Finally at the airport in Alabama, I checked the address of my location, stopped a cab and started my journey. My heart was pounding out of nervousness, and my hands were sweating. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a very confident lady, but the fact that my skin color differs from people that are here made me fear discrimination so bad. I also have no idea if people in that house were racist, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed. We arrived at a very big mansion, I paid the driver and thanked him, then he left. On getting to the door, I rang the bell. A well sculpted man with muscles in the right places, piercing brown eyes that compliment his face, the most handsome man I’ve ever seen, not that I’ve seen a lot of men anyway, but his wife is definitely lucky, I thought. I looked up at him and noticed he was looking at me with an impatient look, he must have noticed me checking him out, I got so embarrassed. I tried to say something, not knowing what to say, so I decided to introduce myself first. Cleaning my sweaty hands, I started “Hello sir, I’m the new nanny sent from Maternal’s touch agency, my name is ….” He cut me off “Come in, I’ve been at this entrance for a while, you’ve wasted 20min of my time, you can tell us what your name is inside” he said with a frown, bursting my bubbles. I stepped in, taking back all the compliments I gave him in my head back, he is rude. Looking at the interior of the house, it’s so beautiful but lacks a homely feeling. I was still looking around when Mr Anderson, I presumed, told me to have a seat, then a click on the staircase could be heard, I saw a lady with a model body walking down the stairs, I was mesmerized. She’s definitely the lady of the house. I stood up to greet her, offering a handshake, but she completely dismissed my hand, looking at it with disgust. Every admiration I had for her flew out of the window. I hope their son is nothing like the two of them, I pray. “You’re welcome young lady, I’m Michael Anderson, She’s Elena Anderson, we are the parent of the child you’re here to take care of. Tell us all about you?” He asked. Under the scrutiny eyes of his wife, I fidgeted a little “m m my name is Sophia, I’m 24yrs, I’m an orphan now, I’m an African, an indigene of South Africa. I’ve volunteered in an orphanage so many times, down in SA, I love kids a lot.” Elena Anderson aka the white witch looked at me in a distasteful manner and said “you’ve volunteered to take care of children from wherever you came from, meaning you have no experience taking care of children in our own world and of our caliber, right?” Nah, I wasn’t going to let this woman intimidate me, I sat up, looked at her squarely, giving her my fake confused look, “There are different types of world? I never knew that, where I came from, there is only one world is what we learnt .” I said to her, “ Speaking of caliber too, there is nothing like that with kids, either white or black, rich or poor, kids remain kids” i can see she’s furious about my reply and looking for ways to pounce at me. Is it my imagination, or did I just catch a tiny smirk on her husband’s face? She looks like a kid that is about to throw tantrums, when her husband decided to say something “ Liam is a special child, he had a total of 7 nannies and made them leave because he wants us to take care of him personally, which is hard because I have to work, and Elena here, well, get busy too. He finally accepted the idea of a nanny again because of the idea of having a company so let's hope you do not get eliminated and can be a good company.” I tried to digest everything he said for a while. “Okay, we can work with that. Any other thing I need to know sir?” “Well, his favorite food is pasta, and taking warm milk helps him sleep faster at night. He doesn’t like vegetables, but you have to convince him otherwise. He loves ranting about activities from school and wants to be listened to. Oh, most importantly, he is allergic to sesame seeds, anything made from it is harmful to him” he warned I was still observing Mrs Anderson's attitude towards the information Michael gave about her son, she looked completely clueless, as if she’s hearing it for the first time, was the child adopted? While I was trying to figure out and fill the question marks, I heard a small voice say “Dad? Mom?” I saw a cute little boy rubbing his eyes, it was obvious he was just waking up. He sat in between his mother and his father and looked at me with a cute frown “Liam, remember the conversation you had with daddy?” he said to him, he replied with a nod still looking at me, I can tell he is a mischievous boy already. “So Ms Sophia over there is your new nanny, and your new friend” he whispered that to him, but in a way that we all can hear. I smiled at that while I noticed Mrs Anderson rolled her eyes. The little guy stood up, and moved close to me. “Hi Miss Sophia” but decided to look away when he noticed I caught him staring. “Hello Liam” I said, offering a handshake, he looked at it with a slight smile, and shook his head as if he was in a trance, and turned away from me which made Mrs Anderson snicker. He faced his father and said “I’ll be in my room” and started walking away. He was about to climb the third stairs, when he turned back and said “Ms Sophia, you are pretty” “Thank you Liam, I appreciate it,” I said with a smile. I swear to God, this boy is going to be a romantic lover full of compliments when he grows up. I looked back at the couple and saw Mr Anderson looking amused “Your main focus should be him please, your job has no other description, just be aware of his needs.” Mr Anderson said in a robotic way. “Elena, would you show Ms Sophia her room please? I have to head to work now” Mr Anderson said to his wife “Sure babe, but can I see you for a while before you leave?” She said sweetly holding onto her husband’s arm, sweet but it seems fake to me.
