Chapter Two

ARIA'S POV I woke up with a loud thud, my insides burned, and my body ached from every angle. My hands moved to my throat as I gasped for air, beads of sweat dripped from my forehead, and my heart raced as though I had been thrown off a cliff. Well, I did get thrown off a rooftop... I frantically checked my body; no scars, no injuries, nothing! It was then I finally took in my environment and my eyes widened in shock. “My room?” I muttered as I glanced around. How did I end up back in my room? “Are we in the afterlife?” Shiraya asked. I could sense her bewilderment, but even I didn't have the answer to her question. I took a second glance at my body, it was then I recognized the dress I had on. This was the same dress I had worn the night of my eighteenth birthday after I had my first shift. “What is going on?” I asked no one in particular. “If you still think that even at this point of your miserable life, then you truly are a fool.” Tyler's words resurfaced, and my confused state was immediately replaced with pure rage. How could I have been so blind?! How could I not have noticed what was right before me?! All those dates, those times we spent together, they all had one thing in common, which was the fact that Tyler always brought up the Palace every damn time! Even when he told me he loved me, he kept lamenting the fact that he couldn't wait to rule with me. Except that what he actually intended was to rule, and I was just a pawn in his game of chess. “I hate him!” Shiraya growled dangerously. Of course, she would. I hated him even more! After everything we did for him, Shiraya chose to accept him, knowing fully well he wasn't our mate. I lied to everyone about him being my mate and brought him into the Palace after he convinced me to. I gave him whatever relevance he has! A knock on the door pulled me out of my thoughts, and before I could react, the door creaked open and Sky walked in, looking like yesterday's nightmare. “Judging from the look of things, I'd say you had a rough night as well,” She slumped heavily on the bed, letting out a long sigh while I just stared at her, feeling utterly confused. “But we have to get ready for graduation,” she added, and I c****d my head a little to the side. “Graduation?” I frowned, still trying to process what was happening. “Yeah, I guess I was wrong to have made you drink so much. But hey, it was so worth it, and Shiraya is —" “So beautiful!" I clasped my hand in my mouth as I completed Sky's statement. She turned to me with a faint smile. “Woah, you read my mind. I should get going now. My —” “Your dad won't be too happy if you missed family breakfast!” I added again, cutting her off as realization dawned on me. This was exactly what happened the morning of our graduation! But how...? “Okay, did your wolf come with some kind of telepathic abilities? You're beginning to scare me,” Sky stated, her brows knotted into a small frown. I quickly jumped out of bed and moved towards the mirror. My jaw dropped at the lady that stared back at me. My hair was still lengthy and wavy, and I still had my contact lenses on. I didn't cut my hair until a year after my graduation, which could only mean... "We went back in time?!" Shiraya was perplexed, and at first it seemed unbelievable to me, but my lips twitched into a bright smile seconds later. “Ari, what is going on? Oh!” I suddenly pulled the sky into a tight hug, cutting her off and taking her by surprise. “I didn't think I would get to see your face again!” I exclaimed, almost in tears. Sky slowly pulled away, her gaze a perplexed mask as she took a step backwards. "Okay, I love you too, but what's with the strange attitude?" “I'll explain eventually, but you should get going, and I should get dressed!” I beamed as I gently shoved her out of my room. “The Moon Goddess came through for us, Shiraya!" Everything started on this very day. The day Tyler proposed to me, and convinced me to let him move into the Palace. The day, I told everyone that he was my mate just so that no one would question his Position as Alpha when the time came. Now, I finally had the chance to set things right! I started by cutting my hair. Why wait till next year? I was determined to show them a new side of me, and beta Lionel would get what was coming for him! I picked out the same dark velvet gown I had worn the day of my death. My mother actually got me that gown for my seventeenth birthday. She got it as an advanced gift for my eighteenth birthday, but didn't get to live long enough to actually see me in it. I shook my head, wiping my tears off. This wasn't the time to be sentimental. I stared at my reflection with a satisfied smile. This dress would be a reminder of the folly I had done for love. Never again will I make myself vulnerable to anyone. Never will I love another like I did Tyler. I arrived fashionably late to Crescent Moon Academy as I wanted everyone to be present before making my bold entrance. The party had already started, and the moment I walked in, all heads turned towards my direction, even the music stopped as though acknowledging my presence. I walked with my head held high, my heels clicking majestically with each step on the hard floor. “Oh my! Is that Aria?” “I never knew she was this gorgeous.” “Damn girl, the floor is yours.” I could hear the not so silent whispers of some students, but they weren't my priority. My gaze finally locked with a pair of blue eyes. Target acquired! Tyler flashed me his best smile, one that would have turned me into a puddle of emotions had I not known better. I could clearly see the devil behind that graceful smile. I walked past him, and made my way to Sky, whose mouth was wide open. “Wow.” She blinked, and I smiled softly at her. “You look amazing yourself too, Sky.” I winked at her as I helped myself out to a glass of champagne. Tyler walked up to us, still carrying that annoying smile on his face. Shiraya was threatening to come forward and it took every bit of restraint to keep her from tearing him to shreds. "Wow, you look..." Tyler was speechless. Good, that's exactly what I wanted. “You could do better." I snorted. “Aria!” Sky stared at me in shock. “It's fine.” Tyler brushed it off with a smile. Oh, you just wait, Tyler. This is only the beginning. “Can we talk?" I folded my arms, my expression as cold as ice. I already knew what he wanted to say to me, and I had plans of my own to publicly reject his proposal in the most humiliating way. “Sure, what is it?" I asked dryly, and suddenly felt a slight pinch from Sky. “Excuse us for a moment.” She lets out a nervous laugh as she quickly dragged me to a corner. "Okay, what is up with you, Aria? Why are you being rude to Tyler all of a sudden? Did you two have a fight or something?" she asked all at once. I scoffed. “If you call killing me in cold blood a fight, then yeah, we did.” Was what I wanted to say to her, but instead, I gave a light shrug. “I guess I'm finally seeing him for who he truly is. I was stupid to ever think he was the one for me,” I responded, and Sky's jaw dropped. "Woah, slow down. What happened?" She asked, but then a sudden disruption pulled our attention to the entrance of the hall. Everyone kept whispering and ladies kept gushing at something or someone, which made me furrow my brows in confusion. "Oh my goddess! He's back!" “I can't believe it!” "No freaking way!" They kept screaming and suddenly, Shiraya came forward. She was restless an d overly excited, and then an intoxicating scent filled my nostrils, pulling me in. I felt a bit confused as to what was happening when My gaze locked with a pair of familiar golden-brown eyes. No! Not him. It can't be him! However, Shiraya's next word confirmed my dilemma. “Mate!”
