With the address given, there was nothing left to do. The woman had already eaten their last meal and it would be time to dim their lights soon. Jewlo hurried from the control room, letting the crewmen carry on with their routine. Kanoch followed silently behind, as always. Going through the corridors, Jewlo deviated from his normal path to pass in front of the doors to the chambers of the females. Though the doors were sound resistant, the din of the shouting could still be heard in the halls. Jewlo slowed through that corridor to let the sounds seep into him, then he moved on. The crown prince traveled with his guard to his chambers, the only place Jewlo could safely speak his mind.
“How must they see us, Kanoch? To them, we must be evil.” Ripping the robe from his body in a sudden bought of anger, Jewlo tossed them on the chair in the corner. “How could we do this to them?” Pacing into the bathroom, Jewlo looked at his reflection in the mirror. Standing at his full height, the prince stood at almost seven feet. He was the average height for his people but by human standards, he would be extremely tall. Along with height, his people had strength and speed on the humans that the woman surely would have known from the day of the abduction. But that wasn’t the only difference.
The earthlings were a diverse people, but the diversity of the mortsos would seem strange to them. Jewlo’s face was angular, sharp and catlike in nature. His eyes looked like the wolves of planet earth with a bright jade green and golden flecks like sunlight peering through the leaves of the forest. His hair was kept in the traditional style of his people, short on the sides and long and flowing on the top. It flowed all the way down to his buttocks and was such a dark red that without the light it seemed black.
But of all these, his skin would be the thing that set him apart the most. The undertones of tanned honey and caramel were covered with bright golden flecks. Jewlo appraised himself carefully, running his eyes down his muscular toned bare upper body and sighed. These differences mark him as the monster that stole them from their homes.
Splashing his face with water to calm himself, Jewlo walked from the bathroom and faced Kanoch with sad open eyes. “What are we going to do?”
“All we can do is our best. And from what I know of your heart, I believe your best will be enough. Even with the challenges that are presented before you. But worrying currently isn’t going to solve these problems.” Kanoch came forward and rested his hand on Jewlo’s shoulder, letting his guard façade fall. “I believe in you.” Jewlo smiled timidly. He nodded his head and stepped forward into the large man’s arms, letting Kanoch embrace him. He sighed before stepping out of his lover's arms and putting on his princely face. The moment was over and Kanoch returned to his guarding posture. With a small nod towards his guard and a dismissal wave, Kanoch left.
Jewlo needed to call his brother and check on the progress of the other ships. Walking towards the monitors on the wall, Jewlo hit the button that would call to the ship Mako was on. The call connected with a small beep and his brother's face appeared on the screen.
“Charsit Mako.”
“Charsit. Have you made your decision, brother?” Mako’s voice was soft and comforting. He knowingly watched Jewlo’s face. They had spoken many times over the years leading to this decision. Mako knew Jewlo didn’t want to take the women.
“Yes, I have. She is beautiful and strong. I will meet her once they wake up. Have you chosen?” Jewlo knew Mako was eager for a woman to be his, having once thought the occasion would never occur, the new prospect of love for himself was exciting.
“Yes, I have. I saw your address to your ship. We translated it into the language of each of the other ships and sent its message to all. The woman went into an uproar, but I think they will settle down soon. However, I caution you to be careful. Though we are strong, we can still be hurt. Guard yourself well during your meeting.”
“I will. You do the same, Mako. Though I am next in line, if anything were to happen to me, you shall surely lead.”
“I shall. I must leave you now. My captain informs me there was a brawl in the engine rooms earlier and I must deal with my crewmen. Shaltim Brother.”
“Shaltim.” The image of his brother disappeared from the screen and Jewlo sighed. He found himself alone in his chambers. Kanoch would have had someone posted at his door by this point and Jewlo was glad about the comfort of never being really alone. But the guards outside the door would not understand the weight that lay heavy on his heart. Jewlo’s brothers were the closest to being able to understand and even they saw things differently than him.
The goddesses blessing of goodness from generations before traveled down the line, keeping their hearts safe from the evil that corrupted others. But, even with the blessing, it was up to the personalities of the individual to decide for themselves what evil really was.
Noklosa saw taking these women as saving their nation. Just as his father had. And that is why their father had deemed Noklosa to be placed on the ship that Jewlo resided on. He had hoped the younger brother would influence Jewlo into the same thinking.
Jewlo had held firm in his belief that taking women was wrong. Mako shared his thinking but thought they could make it up to the women by showering them with gifts, feeding them rich food, and providing them with wealth and position when they found themselves introduced to Mokosati. Jewlo knew that would not be enough. It would never be enough.
