Chapter 21

"You!" Hank's face turned red with anger. Finally, he said, "Fine, if your company can make a monthly profit of five million, you can sit with the elders and Grandma for dinner! But if you can't meet the five million, your company and that villa must be returned to the Foster family!" "No problem." Before Nancy and Frank could react, Jack had already agreed. "You jinx! How dare you make such reckless promises? What makes you decide for us? I'll kill you!" Nancy exploded and rushed up to slap Jack. "Hey, don't hit him!" Hank stopped her, smiling slyly. "Don't back out now. Your son-in-law has already agreed for you." "No way, he can't speak for us..." Nancy tried to argue, but Ladyship Foster's cold voice interrupted, "Enough! You've been fussing for too long. Are we eating or not? Sit down, all of you." When Ladyship Foster spoke, no one dared to object. No matter how upset Nancy was, she had to sit down obediently. "You jinx, I'll deal with you later!" she gritted her teeth, glaring at Jack, wishing she could tear his mouth apart. Emily was also angry. It was clear this whole situation was her uncle's deliberate targeting of them. They could have ignored it and gone home, but why did Jack boast? Five million in profit! Even if she sold the company, it wouldn't be worth that much. "Everyone, quiet down," Ladyship Foster said. "Recently, the power dynamics in Wyndcrest have shifted. According to reports, the Steele family offended a very influential person, leading to bankruptcy. The newly emerged 'Destroy Steele' group is under that powerful figure. After swallowing all of the Steele family's assets, many of their former projects have been halted, and they're looking for new partners." "I believe this is a great opportunity for us. Is there anyone willing to approach 'Destroy Steele' for a business deal?" Ladyship Foster's gaze swept across the room. Everyone she looked at lowered their heads, afraid of being chosen. Most of them were just living off the family name and couldn't negotiate with such a formidable group. Ladyship Foster's face darkened and she was about to get angry, when Bob suddenly spoke up, "Grandma, I have a good candidate!" "Who?" she asked. "Of course, it's Emily!" Bob said gleefully. "She's aiming for a five million profit target. As her brothers, we should give her this great opportunity first!" The young managers of the Foster family all agreed. Their plan was simple: let Emily test the waters with 'Destroy Steele'. If negotiations went well, they could swoop in and take over. If the response was negative, only Emily would hit a wall, sparing them the embarrassment. "Very well, Emily, give it a try," Ladyship Foster said, fixing her gaze on Emily with an authoritative tone. Emily's face turned pale. She opened her mouth but couldn't speak. Despite being surrounded by family, not one person cared about her thoughts. "Emily, just agree. It's okay," Jack whispered reassuringly in her ear. With a bitter heart, Emily nodded. The mocking eyes around her felt like daggers, and she didn't even know when the family banquet ended. By the time she came to her senses, she was already at her doorstep. At the villa entrance, Nancy yelled at Jack, "You bastard! Even if you have to sell your blood and organs, you must get five million for Emily's company this month. If we lose our home because of you, you'll never see Emily again!" Jack nodded. "Don't worry, Mrs. Foster. I'll keep my promise." Nancy snorted angrily and went inside. "Emily, shall we take a walk?" Jack held her hand. Emily was furious at Jack's boasting but couldn't ignore him as she loved him dearly. After walking for a while, Emily couldn't hold back any longer. "Jack, do you know the trouble you've caused? Five million a month! Even selling the company wouldn't get that much. You've ruined us!" Jack smiled, "Don't be so pessimistic. Try 'Destroy Steele' tomorrow. You might be surprised." "How can it be that easy?" Emily said, her face pale. "I've been following that company. Many top firms have tried to collaborate but failed. 'Destroy Steele' has very high standards. Our failing company. I won't even get through their door." "You will," Jack said confidently. "You'll not only get through but be treated as a VIP. Trust me." Emily sighed. "Stop joking. You act like you own 'Destroy Steele'... Fine, Jack, go take care of Cindy at the hospital. I need to think about what to do tomorrow. I'm too tired for a walk." With that, Emily freed her hand from Jack's grip and walked home, her back full of despair. Jack didn't say a word. Once she was inside, he took out his phone. "Drake, I need you to arrange something..." Early the next morning, Emily dressed formally, carrying the company's documents, ready to negotiate with 'Destroy Steele.' To her surprise, she found Bob waiting in his car. "Bob, what are you doing here?" Emily asked, frowning. "Emily, don't be so harsh," Bob said with a smile. "Grandma was worried you'd embarrass our family if you arrived by taxi and couldn't get in, so she asked me to drive you. Do you think I'd volunteer?" Emily's face stiffened. She knew it wasn't Grandma's idea but Bob's desire to see her humiliated. However, she didn't mind a free ride. They drove to 'Destroy Steele.' As she stood before the grand building, her palms were sweaty. Just then, a well-dressed man was thrown out by security. Emily recognized him immediately. He was the chairman of NewTech, one of the top ten companies in Wyndcrest. He was young and talented, worth nearly 100 million at thirty. But even he was thrown out. What hope did she have? "Emily, go ahead. What are you waiting for?" Bob said, his phone out, ready to record her being thrown out. Emily gritted her teeth and walked into the building. At the reception desk, she explained her purpose. The receptionist sneered, "Joyland Realty? Never heard of it. You saw what happened to the NewTech chairman, right? Do you think you'll get to see our boss?" "Please, this opportunity is crucial for me," Emily pleaded. "Many people beg, but why should I give you a chance? Leave before I call security and save some face," the receptionist said, painting her nails with a haughty expression. Emily's face fell. She knew she had no chance. She turned to leave, but just then, Drake and several executives walked out of the elevator. Drake addressed the receptionist, "If anyone from Joyland Realty comes to discuss business, treat them with the highest respect. I'll personally come down to meet her. Understood?" The receptionist started to nod, then remembered the woman she'd just turned away. Realizing her mistake, her face turned pale. Oh no! The receptionist's face turned deathly pale.
