"Quick, help me!" Henry's face twisted in pain as he howled frantically. Tom was terrified, directing people to call a doctor while he ran upstairs to seek help.
In the elevator, Lily's face was flushed as she looked at Jack. "Jack, I misunderstood you at the last gathering. I'm sorry."
"It's okay," Jack said with a slight wave of his hand, not considering it significant.
As they arrived on the sixth floor, Lily said, "Jack, didn't your friend come up? He might clash with the Steele family. You probably don't know since you haven't been back for a long time, but the Steele family is the most powerful in Wyndcrest now. It's best not to provoke them. How about I ask my grandfather to meditate?"
"No need," Jack replied calmly, making Lily feel a bit hurt. Just as she was about to say more, Jack noticed a couple arguing and quickly walked over. Lily, annoyed, stomped her foot and hurried to catch up.
"I told you to prepare a gift for my sister's birthday today. What is this garbage you bought?" A stylishly dressed woman was scolding a man, her face full of disdain. She threw the gift box to the ground, breaking a jade bracelet inside into pieces.
The man looked heartbroken at the broken bracelet but said nothing, only lowering his head as the woman berated him. This woman was the one Jack had seen on Dragon Crest, Lily's sister, Chloe Carter, and the man was Edwin's younger brother, Simon Cooper.
"Honey, I tried my best to prepare this. It cost me half a year's allowance. I... I don't have more money," Simon explained.
"Loser! I knew I couldn't rely on a lowlife like you. I don't know why Grandpa made me marry you. I'm so unlucky!" Chloe slapped Simon across the face. He covered his face, not daring to retaliate.
But Chloe grew angrier. She raised her hand to slap him again when suddenly, a hand stopped her.
"Who dares interfere with my business?" Chloe shouted in anger, turning to see Jack's cold face.
"It's... it's you!" Chloe's eyes widened in fear, paralyzed by terror. She thought Jack had come to seek revenge for her insults the day before; she was certain he would be furious.
Jack ignored the previous day's events and asked, "How dare you hit him?" The ten war generals of the Skyblade were his sworn brothers, so was Simon, Edwin's brother. He wouldn't allow anyone to bully his family in front of him.
"I... I..." Chloe stammered, too frightened to speak. She feared offending such a powerful figure like Jack and worried that he might reveal her infidelity. If her grandfather found out, he would never forgive her, as the Carter family was known for their strict emphasis on honor.
"Bro, she didn't hit me, just lightly tapped," Simon hurriedly tried to explain.
Jack stared at him. "What's your name?" Simon forced a smile. "I'm Simon Cooper."
"Is Edwin Cooper your brother?" Jack asked again.
Simon looked puzzled. "I do have a brother named Edwin Cooper, but he died eight years ago in a fight. How do you know...?"
Before Simon could finish speaking, Jack interrupted, "I'm telling you now, Edwin isn't dead. He's working for me. Do you want to work with your brother?"
"What did you say?" Simon looked as if he'd heard the biggest joke ever, standing there in disbelief.
Jack didn't say more. He knew Simon needed time to process this information and decide whether to trust him. He had given Simon the opportunity; it was up to Simon to seize it.
Lily and Chloe were equally stunned by Jack's revelation. They were about to ask more questions when a group of people suddenly rushed into the banquet hall.
Guests turned pale upon seeing the newcomers, whispering among themselves. "Isn't that the Steele family from upstairs? Why are they here?"
"I don't know. Are they here to celebrate Lily's birthday? There are so many of them, even the Steele family elders are here!" The guests murmured, unsure of the Steele family's intentions.
The Carters were also puzzled, but Arthur Carter, the family patriarch, stepped forward to greet them. "What brings the distinguished guests from the Steele family here?" The Steele family's power surpassed the Carters, but the Carters weren't a family to be bullied easily.
"Arthur, tell your girl to give up that Steele guy, or we'll take down your entire family!" a young man from the Steele family shouted at Arthur.
The Carter family was furious, but Arthur held them back.
"What do you mean?" Arthur narrowed his eyes. "Instead of entertaining your guest upstairs, you come to our party looking for a Steele. This is amusing. Aren't you afraid of disgracing the Steele family?"
"We Carters aren't your vassals. We aren't afraid of you." Arthur's firm and powerful words earned applause from the guests.
Just then, a calm voice sounded from outside. "Patriarch Cater, your words are quite bold. But if I come forward, would you still refuse to hand over the person?"
The room fell silent. Even Arthur's face turned serious, staring at the entrance.
A moment later, a middle-aged man in a military uniform walked in with dignified expression, accompanied by his guards and Edward.
"That's... Major Robin Will!" a guest exclaimed. Others turned pale upon hearing this.
Unexpectedly, the distinguished guest invited by the Steele family turned out to be a military officer! Moreover, he was a highly authoritative Major who had spent many years guarding the border.
Even a Major General from a peaceful region would not dare to provoke such a person, as their achievements were earned through fierce battles on the front lines, far surpassing those in administrative roles.
"Patriarch Cater, hand over the person," Major Will said with a smile.
Arthur turned pale, unable to speak. He didn't want to be trampled by the Steeles, but he couldn't defy a major.
As he struggled to decide, Jack's calm voice interrupted, "No need to worry. I'm here."
