Chapter 19

"Cindy, I am late!" Jack exclaimed as he kicked Lisa away and quickly helped Cindy to her feet. Cindy looked ahead, terrified, her face pale. Recognizing her brother who had played with her as a child, Cindy couldn't hold back her grievances anymore and burst into tears. "You finally came to save me! I missed you so much, and I miss Mom and Dad!" Cindy clung to Jack, her arms nearly choking him. This sight filled Jack with anger, nearly overwhelming his reason. He had thought that the Shaw family taking Cindy in would provide her a better life and then he could help the Shaw family become a top-tier family in the southern region. But seeing Cindy's suffering now, he just wanted to destroy this worthless scum! "You dare hit me? You're dead!" Lisa struggled to get up. As the esteemed lady of the Shaw family, no one had ever dared to hit her like this. She wanted to tear Jack apart. Jack was about to deal with her when he noticed Cindy fainted in his arms. "Cindy?" Jack called softly, but she didn't respond. Ignoring the Shaw family, he quickly carried Cindy to his car and drove to the nearest hospital. Seeing Jack drive away, Lisa stomped her foot in anger. "Damn it, I'll skin you alive and sell that little b***h to a brothel!" Meanwhile, Jack had already arrived at the hospital with his sister. After a thorough medical examination, Jack stared silently at the doctor's report. It indicated that Cindy had been malnourished for a long time and was covered in bruises and wounds. Clearly, she had been living a terrible life for the past eight years. The Shaw family had often beaten her. "Jack, why did you call me to the hospital so late and ask me to bring girls' clothes?" Emily hurried into the hospital room. "Is this Cindy?!" She looked at the girl on the bed and asked. Emily had met Cindy when she was with Jack years ago, and even though Cindy had grown up a lot, she still recognized her. "Emily, please help clean Cindy up and change her into clean clothes. I'll wait outside," Jack said before leaving the room. About ten minutes later, Emily came out with red eyes. "Jack, Cindy is covered in bruises. It's heartbreaking. What happened to her?" Jack was silent, feeling it was his failure as a brother. If he had found Cindy sooner, she wouldn't have suffered so much. "Don't worry. From now on, Cindy will stay with me, and I'll give her the best life in the world, just like I promised you." Jack gently hugged Emily. Meanwhile, Jack's mind was already planning how to make the Shaw family pay. This time, he wouldn't use the same methods he used on the Steele family; that would be too lenient. Cindy was only thirteen, and they had been so cruel to her. They didn't deserve to be called human! So, he decided to make the Shaw family suffer greatly. "By the way, Jack," Emily suddenly said, "I don't know who the Steele family offended, but many of their businesses and factories have gone bankrupt or been acquired! All the assets that the Steele family took from my family have been returned." "Really? That's great." Jack smiled. He had arranged all of this, and had no interest in those Steele family assets. So, he let the temporarily established company, "Destroy Steele," to take them over and reorganize. The part that originally belonged to the Foster family was returned as compensation. "But..." Emily frowned, "The family managers only gave my family a company that's been losing money for years and is about to go bankrupt. They said it's because I caused the family to be oppressed by the Steele family for so long, and this distribution is the most reasonable decision after family discussions." "What?!" Jack's face darkened; his voice cold. "If it weren't for you, they wouldn't have gotten those assets back. Did they get it wrong?" "Huh? Jack, are you joking? How could it be because of me?" Emily gave a wry smile, not taking it seriously. Jack was silent for a moment. "It's because I returned those assets to the Foster family." Emily was stunned, then chuckled. "Stop joking. Are you going to say the Steele family went bankrupt because of you too?" "Yes, the Steele family was ruined because they offended me," Jack said seriously. Though his identity as General Steele was a secret, it was fine for his woman to know. "Jack, stop saying such unrealistic things. I don't like hearing them," Emily said, her smile fading as she looked at him seriously. "I'm not lying to you because I am General Steele..." Jack tried to explain, but she interrupted him. "Alright, stop boasting! You should help me run the company. We can't let it go bankrupt after just getting it back, or we'll have to eat stale bread." "If we don't work hard now, when will you propose to me at the Star of Briarcliff?" Emily pouted adorably at him. "Alright, I get it," Jack said with a slight smile, feeling helpless. Hearing this, Emily smiled in satisfaction. "By the way," she remembered, "my grandmother is hosting a family banquet tomorrow night to celebrate getting the Foster family assets back. All Foster family members must attend. As my husband, you should come with me." "No problem," Jack agreed. He had heard about Emily's grandmother before. She was a shrewd woman who managed the family's internal affairs when Patriarch Foster was still alive. Now that Patriarch Foster had passed away, Emily's grandmother had become the head of the Foster family. *** The next evening, Jack asked Drake to prepare a car for the Forster family banquet. When he went downstairs, he saw a limited-edition Bentley Mulsanne, which made him a bit exasperated. With no time to change cars, Jack drove the Bentley to the Foster family house. Frank and Foster had just stepped out of the house when Nancy urged, "Emily, hurry up! We still need to pick out a gift for Grandma, and we don't have much time!" Emily responded quickly, hurrying out. "Emily, Mr. and Mrs. Foster, I'm here to pick you up," Jack said as he got out of the car. Nancy was stunned, her gaze quickly passing over Jack to the black Bentley Mulsanne. "My God, isn't this one of the 60 limited-edition Bentleys in the Alliance? Where did you steal this from?" Nancy ran to the car, touching and admiring it as if fearing it was an illusion. "Mom, don't say that," Emily pulled at her mother, a little unhappy. Ignoring Emily, Nancy sneered, "Well, at least you rented a good car. I'm in a rare good mood, so I'll let you join us at the family banquet." "Take us to buy the gift first," Nancy said as she nonchalantly got into the passenger seat. "Mrs. Foster, I've already prepared the gift. It's in the trunk. Let's head straight there," Jack said as he got into the driver's seat and started the car. Twenty minutes later, the four arrived at the Foster family mansion. Just as they got out of the car at the entrance, they saw a sign. "Frank Foster's family and beggars are not allowed inside!"
