Chapter 36

"Do you still have any questions now?" Jack asked, staring coldly at Park. Park trembled and quickly replied, "Oh, I just remembered I have a meeting to attend. I must leave now." He didn't dare stay for even a second longer. After Park left, Jack turned to the family and said, "I'm now handing over the project to Emily. Her name is on the contract as the responsible party. As long as there are no major accidents, the profit from this project will far exceed that of the Wyndcrest Memorial Park." Hearing this, Nancy and Frank looked surprised. But then Frank spoke up seriously, "It's not that simple. Remember how the Memorial Park project was taken from us? It was because Joyland Realty didn't have the funds to invest. Now we have the project, but we still face the same problem with the initial investment. Without solving this, we're like beggars sitting on a gold mine." "Mr. Steele, you don't need to worry about this," Jack said calmly. "Carry is a generous person. Not only did he give us the project, but he also covered all the upfront costs. For the first three phases, we don't need to spend a dime. We'll start earning money right away, and with the profits, Emily can handle the remaining phases smoothly." "Really? That's fantastic!" Nancy and Frank breathed a sigh of relief, smiling widely. Suddenly, Nancy's face turned stern again. "Jack, let's be clear. Since this project is now Emily's, all the profits belong to our family. It has nothing to do with you. Don't expect any money from Emily!" "Mom, how can you say that?" Emily was initially very happy, but hearing this, she was stunned. It was absurd. The project and initial investment were all secured by Jack, so why shouldn't he get a share of the profits? "Emily, it's okay," Jack reassured her with a gentle smile. He didn't mind. The Foster family had suffered a lot because of him in the past, and he saw this as a way to make up for it. Besides, he didn't care about the money. "Hmph, at least you have some conscience," Nancy scoffed but felt less inclined to drive him away today. Emily, angry at her mother, pulled Jack into her room. Locking the door, she took out a calendar and started flipping through it. "Emily, what are you looking for?" Jack asked, puzzled. "I'm looking for a suitable date for us to secretly get our marriage certificate," Emily replied. "Mom is too much. She can say such things without thinking. I really can't stand her. We can have the wedding later, but let's make our relationship official first so they have nothing to say and stop setting me up on blind dates." "So that's your plan," Jack chuckled. He gently ruffled her hair and said, "Don't worry, I don't mind what your mom said. I'm not concerned about the profit from one project." "Jack!" Emily was a bit annoyed. "I don't know what methods you used to get Carry to transfer this project to you, but you probably asked Drake for help again, right? Even though you have a life-and-death bond with him, you can't always rely on others. We should work hard together to earn money and live a good life. I don't expect you to be particularly wealthy, you understand?" "I understand," Jack nodded sincerely, gazing at Emily with affection. He had canceled the grand wedding at the Star of Wyndcrest planned for that week, fearing it might overwhelm her. Once the Foster family had earned enough money with his help and experienced a life of true wealth, he planned to throw a grand wedding that Emily could fully enjoy. "By the way, Jack, our anniversary of meeting each other is in a couple of days. Let's go out for dinner to celebrate," Emily said, looking at the calendar. Jack's eyes lit up, almost forgetting about the anniversary. He quickly got up, "Emily, I have something urgent to take care of. I'll come find you in a few days." With that, he ran out of the room. Emily was about to say something but could only watch his retreating form. She stomped her foot in frustration. Whenever she mentioned the anniversary, he ran off faster than a rabbit. Did he still care about her? Meanwhile, Jack had already reached the city center. The anniversary was a big deal and couldn't be treated lightly, especially since it was their first after eight years apart. It had to be grand. "Drake, besides the Star of Wyndcrest, is there another high-end restaurant in Wyndcrest?" Jack called. "Yes, sir. There's a well-known restaurant called Falling Star Night, located on the top floor of D.T. Tower," Drake replied promptly. "Got it," Jack said, hanging up and heading straight to D.T. Tower. As he was about to enter the elevator, he heard a surprised voice behind him, "Jack?!" Turning around, he saw Lily. She looked as refined as ever, though a trace of worry clouded her face. "Lily, what are you doing here?" Jack asked. "Don't mention it. My sister went through something terrible and is severely traumatized. She's still receiving treatment in the hospital. I'm here to buy some supplements for her," Lily said with a sigh. Jack nodded, understanding. He knew why Chloe had been frightened, but he felt no sympathy. It was her own doing. "Jack, why are you here?" Lily asked, noticing he was alone. "I'm going to the Falling Star Night Restaurant. Our anniversary is in two days, and I want to book the entire restaurant for dinner with my wife," Jack said calmly, a smile already forming on his lips. "Your wife? you're engaged?" Lily's eyes widened in disbelief, her heart sinking. But she quickly regained her composure and forced a smile. "You just got back from the military, and you're already married? You didn't even invite me to the wedding. That's not very friendly of you." "She's my fiancée. We haven't had the wedding yet," Jack clarified. Hearing this, Lily felt an inexplicable joy. "By the way, the manager of Falling Star Night is my college classmate. If you want to book the entire restaurant, it might be impossible, but I can help you get a reservation. Let's go up together." With that, she joined Jack in the elevator. "Is booking the whole restaurant impossible?" Jack asked, puzzled. Lily patiently explained, "Falling Star Night is very famous in Wyndcrest. Dining there gives you a chance to see shooting stars, making it a top choice for couples. Usually, you need to book a table at least half a month in advance. You only have two days left, so it's too late to make a reservation. As for booking the whole restaurant, that's even less likely. Who would offend all their other customers for a bit of money?" Jack nodded, understanding her explanation but not planning to change his mind. If he couldn't book it, he would just buy it. When they reached the restaurant, the manager was already waiting. "Lily, it's been so long. I've missed you!" The manager was a handsome young man who immediately moved in for a hug upon seeing Lily. She quickly linked arms with Jack, smiling as she introduced him, "William, this is my boyfriend, Jack Steele. We have something to discuss with you." Jack frowned, intending to pull his arm away, but Lily held on tightly. "What? You're dating?" William's smile froze, his gaze towards Jack turning hostile. Jack could see that William liked Lily. "Tell me, what do you need?" William's attitude shifted abruptly, his tone becoming cold. Jack stepped forward, "I want to book the entire restaurant. I need it for dinner with my fiancée the day after tomorrow." "What did you say?" William rolled his eyes and signaled to the two security guards behind him. "Get over here and kick this i***t out. I don't have time to deal with him." "Yes, sir!" The two security guards quickly approached, ready to handle Jack.
