"William, stop it. He's my boyfriend!" Lily quickly stepped in front of Jack.
"Lily, I know he's your boyfriend, but that doesn't give him the right to joke around with me, does it?" William sneered. "Don't blame me for not being nice. I chased you for four years in college, and you rejected me every time. Now you bring another man here just to provoke me?"
"I…" Lily was at a loss for words.
Jack, listening from behind, frowned deeply. He thought that if he had come alone, he wouldn't have encountered such a mess. Stepping forward, he addressed William directly, "I'm serious. I want to book Falling Star Night for the day after tomorrow. Name your price."
William couldn't help but laugh at Jack's insistence. He looked at Lily and said, "Lily, is your boyfriend an i***t? Why does he keep saying such brainless things?"
"How much?" Jack took a step forward, his imposing presence making everyone feel pressured.
William snorted. "Fine, you want to book the restaurant? Let me tell you the rules. First, you need to make a reservation six months in advance. Second, the cost is ten times our daily revenue. Do you know how much that is? It'll scare you!"
"Todd, let me handle this," Lily nervously tugged at Jack's sleeve, only to be brushed off.
"Stay out of this. I can handle it," Jack said coldly.
Lily felt incredibly wronged. She just wanted to help, not make things worse. But Jack's tone was so icy that it hurt her deeply.
William, unaware of their real relationship, thought Jack was just pretending to be rich in front of Lily and laughed coldly. "Our busiest days bring in $50,000; ten times that is $5,00,000. But that's the price for six months in advance. For an impromptu booking like yours, it's twenty times the daily revenue, which is $1,000,000. Can you afford that?!"
"One million, right?" Jack smiled slightly, then pulled out a black credit card. "Go ahead and swipe it."
"What do you mean?" William was stunned, looking at the black card in Jack's hand. "Are you saying this card has a million dollars on it? Are you joking?"
The two security guards behind William also burst out laughing. They had seen people pretending to be rich before, but never so casually. 'Did he think we are idiots? Pulling out a random card and claiming it had a million dollars. Why not just say he was the richest man in Wyndcrest?'
"Why don't you try it and see for yourself?" Jack's tone was calm.
William scoffed, took the card, and handed it to a security guard behind him. "Lily, I didn't expect your taste to be so poor, finding a boyfriend who's a complete fool. This is going to be hilarious if it gets out in our alumni group. How will you ever show your face at classmate reunions?"
Just as William finished speaking, the restaurant door was forcefully pushed open. A security guard rushed in, panic-stricken. "Why are you so panicked? If you break the door, can you afford to pay for it?" William angrily kicked the security guard.
The guard hurriedly approached Jack with a flattering smile. "Sir… sir, here's your card. The earlier incident was a misunderstanding; I was just following our manager's orders."
"What are you doing?" William was furious, raising his foot to kick the guard.
"Mr. William, that card has way more than a million!" The guard quickly turned and said.
"What did you say?" William thought he had misheard and asked again.
"I said that card has way more than a million. It's an unlimited black card. If he wants, he could buy this entire D.T. Tower!" The guard's voice was trembling.
William was stunned. Lily's eyes widened in disbelief, looking at Jack in astonishment. She never expected him to be so wealthy after leaving the military.
"Did you swipe the card?" Jack just wanted to get this over with and leave. He had wasted enough time. There were other matters to arrange, and he didn't have time to waste here.
William's face changed rapidly. "Mr. Steele, it does take a million to book the restaurant, but I need my boss's approval for such a large amount. I don't have the authority to make that decision."
Hearing this, Jack lost his patience and showed a look of annoyance.
Seeing Jack's expression, William's heart pounded. He knew there were only a few unlimited black cards in the entire federation. The World Bank issued them based on a user's assets and global influence, not just wealth. And he had been insulting such a person. Regret overwhelmed William.
Jack took out his phone and made a call to Drake. "Drake, buy D.T. Tower and fire the restaurant manager. Also, the restaurant won't accept any customers the day after tomorrow; I need it for the evening."
After giving these instructions, Jack hung up and walked away, with Lily quickly following.
"Mr. Steele, please forgive me. I can't lose this job!" William fell to his knees, begging.
Jack ignored him, decisively entering the elevator. William turned to Lily for help, but she also ignored him, as she wasn't Jack's girlfriend and had no say in this matter.
"Jack, I'm sorry if I made things worse," Lily said apologetically outside D.T. Tower.
Jack didn't respond because Lily indeed caused some unnecessary trouble. But having been classmates for three years, and knowing she didn't mean any harm, he wasn't truly angry.
"Lily, find someone good at playing the piano for me, and I won't hold this against you," Jack said.
"Really?" Lily's face lit up. "I'm quite good at the piano myself. I can play almost any piece and have won many awards. You can come to my house and see for yourself."
As soon as Lily finished speaking, she felt like a fool. Jack already had a fiancée, and inviting him over to her home was inappropriate. What if Jack misunderstood her intentions? She might end up being misconstrued as having ulterior motives.
Before she could explain further, a sharp voice called out.
"Jack! Meeting another woman here! You've disappointed me!"
