Chapter 41

The waiter, feeling helpless, turned to Jack for help. Jack didn't want these annoying individuals to join, but rejecting them would contradict his earlier explanation to Emily. After a brief consideration, Jack nodded to the waiter, who then said, "Fine, you may come in and have a seat." Bob smirked, swaggering into the restaurant with his girlfriend. "Well, well, look who we have here! My dear cousin and her husband. We must have quite the connection." Emily gritted her teeth. "Bob, did you manage to scrape together two hundred thousand that quickly?" "Shut up, you b***h!" Bob snapped. The remainder of his struggle to borrow two hundred thousand dollars from friends infuriated him. He blamed Emily for his financial loss and followed them out of spite. "Who are you calling a b***h?" Jack's icy voice cut through the air. Bob wanted to retort but the stinging pain from their previous encounter silenced him. He led his girlfriend to a nearby table and muttered, "Just wait until my memorial park project is completed. I'll make sure you suffer." Turning to the waiter, he arrogantly ordered, "No menu needed. Bring us exactly what they're having!" The waiter was taken aback. "Sir, are you sure?" "Of course, I'm sure! Cut the crap?" Bob's anger was barely contained. The waiter quickly arranged for the same dishes to be prepared, fearing Bob might change his mind. What Bob didn't know was that Jack's meal, though not ostentatious in appearance, was made with the finest and most expensive ingredients, tailored to Emily's tastes. Some of the seafood had been caught that morning and delivered fresh in the afternoon. This bespoke meal easily cost over five hundred thousand dollars. "Honey, I've prepared many surprises for you tonight. Get ready to be amazed!" Bob boasted to his girlfriend. "Really? I'm so touched! I love you!" She exaggerated her delight, showering him with kisses. Emily, bothered by the noise from the next table, silently cut her food. Jack smiled and took her hand. "Emily, I've got a surprise for you too. You'll see in a moment." "Really?" Emily's face lit up with joy. She thought Jack had only planned a dinner. "Ha! A guy who can't even afford clothes is planning a surprise? At best, it'll be a bouquet," Bob sneered. Jack didn't respond but simply clapped his hands. Instantly, a spotlight illuminated a white piano in the center of the restaurant. A beautiful girl, looking like a fairy, sat behind it, and an elegant melody filled the room, making everyone smile and get lost in the enchanting music. When the music stopped, Emily and others were still immersed in the beautiful world created by the tune. Jack looked approvingly at Lily, who had just finished playing. Lily hadn't lied about her skills. Her performance was impeccable. She gracefully approached Jack and Emily, holding the hem of her white evening gown. "Miss Emily, that piece was dedicated to you and Mr. Steele. I hope you both have a wonderful and unforgettable evening. May your love be eternal and your life filled with happiness," Lily's soft voice conveyed her wishes, making Emily immensely happy. This surprise prepared by Jack was very satisfying. But just then, a spoiling voice came from the side. "Hey, are you blind? This restaurant isn't just for them. Why are you only wishing them well? Do you want me to complain about you?" Bob shouted angrily. Lily frowned and retorted, "I was specifically hired by Mr. Steele to perform. Naturally, my wishes are for them. How dare you to question me?" The Carter family was one of the top families, and Lily's status had only risen since the Steele family's fall. Without Jack's request, she wouldn't have performed in the restaurant. Bob stood up, sneering. "You f*****g w***e are trying to fooling me? There's no way Jack, a poor nobody, could afford to hire you for a private performance at Falling Star Night. You're probably just the resident pianist, and he paid you a few hundred bucks to pretend." "Nonsense! Apologize to me, or I won't forgive you!" Lily trembled with rage, her face pale. She had never been insulted like this. Today, Bob's degrading words left her furious and hurt. "So what? Get over it. You're so delicate; it must cost a fortune to sleep with you!" Bob laughed and pulled out a wad of cash, throwing it in Lily's face. "Here's a thousand bucks. Play us another tune and then come bless us, or else I won't let you go!" "You dare insult me!" Lily's eyes filled with tears. Enraged, she slapped Bob hard across the face. Bob, now furious, shouted, "You dare hit me? I'll have my boys strip you and throw you on the street! Do you think you're some high-class lady? You're just a cheap w***e! I'll—" His rant was cut short by the sound of hurried footsteps at the restaurant entrance. Following that, a large group of people appeared at the entrance of the restaurant. An elderly man with white hair rushed in, followed by a group of stern-looking bodyguards. "Miss Carter, are you alright? Who hurt you?" the old man asked anxiously. Seeing the intimidating entourage, Bob's legs gave out, and he collapsed into his chair. "I...I..." Bob stammered, unable to form coherent words. Lily, covering her face where the money had hit her, pointed at Bob. "Mr. Larry, he insulted me!" The old man's face turned red with fury. "Beat him! Smash his mouth! How dare he insult the second daughter of the Carter family! He's courting death!"
