Chapter 43

997 Words
Impossible! Bob stared out the window, dumbfounded. The previously night sky was now ablaze with countless stars, resembling a vibrant, breathtaking galaxy right before their eyes. Stars, previously visible only through powerful telescopes, seemed to be within reach. Amidst this dazzling galactic display, shooting stars began to streak slowly across the sky. Bob and his girlfriend stood there, mouths agape in shock. Their astonishment was palpable; it was as if they could fit an entire egg in their gaping mouths. "This...this can't be real!" Bob slapped himself, the sting of the slap confirming he was wide awake. "No! This isn't possible. There were no reports of a meteor shower tonight!" Emily was leaning against the large floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the stunning night sky in awe. She covered her mouth, her eyes glistening with tears of joy. She quickly closed her eyes and made a wish. The meteor shower grew more intense as time passed. The people who had been drawn to D.T. Tower by the earlier fireworks now stopped in their tracks, marveling at the meteor shower overhead. From higher vantage points around Wyndcrest, one could see a colorful and dome-like phenomenon above D.T. Tower. This was a localized "meteor shower." To those near D.T. Tower, it appeared as if the entire sky was filled with breathtaking stars and meteors, creating an unbelievably real and dreamlike spectacle. Jack, the orchestrator of this epic display, stood quietly beside Emily. Her eyes sparkled with the reflections of the meteors, while Jack gazed lovingly at her profile, his eyes full of adoration. Gently, he tucked a loose strand of her hair behind her ear and whispered, "Emily, your presence in my life is as radiant and beautiful as these meteors. I will make you the happiest woman in the world." Emily, overwhelmed with emotion, threw herself into Jack's arms, saying, "Jack, thank you. I love you." In such a deeply romantic setting, she felt like the luckiest person in the world. Jack held her gently, stroking her hair tenderly. Suddenly, an obnoxious voice interrupted, "This is hilarious! Taking a natural phenomenon as your surprise? How shameless can you be?" Bob sneered from the next table. "Why not claim the entire galaxy as your surprise?" However, Bob's smugness quickly turned to disbelief as he saw the stars outside forming a giant pink heart. The entire city of Wyndcrest erupted in cheers and screams of excitement. People realized this was a man-made meteor shower. Some even spotted the drones projecting the images with telescopes, and they began to exclaim in amazement. "This is insane! I saw a cutting-edge drone show last month, but this one is far more impressive in scale and detail!" "These can't be ordinary drones; they must be military-grade to create such realistic holograms!" "This is so romantic! I'm so jealous of whoever owning this epic declaration of love!" "I know how much drone shows cost. Even a basic one with a few thousand drones costs at least millions of dollars! This is on another level! Oh! My God!" As people in Wyndcrest took photos and marveled at the spectacle, a huge heart shape appeared in the sky, followed by the words: "Love as Eternal as the Stars, J&E." The crowd erupted again in awe. The initials "J&E" clearly stood for Jack and Emily, though the onlookers didn't know them. They were simply amazed and envious of such a grand expression of love and the enormous expense it must have entailed. Emily was stunned as she saw the message in the sky. She could hardly believe she was the center of this unprecedented display. She hugged Jack tightly, giving him a passionate kiss. Even after the show ended, everyone remained in awe, unable to calm down. Bob, looking like he had seen a ghost, stood there with his mouth hanging open. Compared to this incredible drone show, his fireworks display seemed childish and insignificant. Jack had been inspired by the idea of a "meteor shower" and immediately had the Skyblade prepare it. This show involved nearly ten thousand drones, the latest military-grade models with perfect radar invisibility and state-of-the-art holographic projection capabilities. It also served as a test of the drones' control, stability and speed. Jack was very satisfied with the performance. He then turned to Bob and said, "Bob, when will you fulfill our bet?" "Hmph, Jack, using a few drones to create a show isn't impressive. My fireworks were better. I'll let you off tonight. The bet is off. We're leaving to have some fun," Bob said, grabbing his girlfriend and trying to leave the restaurant. Suddenly, the waiter approached. "Sir, you haven't paid your bill yet." Bob froze, realizing he hadn't paid. He pulled out his card. "Hurry up and charge it. Don't waste my time." The waiter swiped the card and then looked up, concerned. "Sir, your card has insufficient funds." "What?!" Bob nearly jumped out of his skin. "There should be seventy or eighty thousand on that card. How can it be insufficient?" After borrowing money from friends to pay for the dress, he should still have had plenty left. The waiter showed him the bill, totaling five hundred and eighty thousand dollars. "Sir, because your total exceeds five hundred thousand dollars, you're eligible for a discount. You only need to pay five hundred thousand," the waiter explained helpfully. Bob nearly fainted. "How can it be so expensive? You must be mistaken!" "There's no mistake," the waiter replied, smiling patiently. "You ordered the same meal as Mr. Steele, which is our supreme package. The ingredients are the finest available, including fresh seafood flown in from the western seas. The chef is a Michelin three-star chef, ensuring the highest culinary standards..." As the waiter continued to explain, Bob sank to the floor in despair. Jack, holding Emily's hand, walked past Bob without a word. Bob, in desperation, grabbed Emily's foot, crying out, "Emily, please don't leave me! Help me; I don't have enough money!"
